I am looking at wide angle lenses.

I am fairly happy with my Sigma 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5
I would like a wide angle probably mostly to be used for interiors and landscape. I don't want a fisheye.

I am looking at 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 by Sigma.
Nikon offers a lense of same focal lengths for about twice the money.

From what I have read the Nikon is sharper and faster. But for my needs and price range I think I can sacrifice that....

Any wide angle lense suggestions?

Thanks.

The nikon, is 35% more than the sigma ($940 at b&h vs $700 for the sigma), so you have to weigh that into your decision obviously.

By all accounts the nikon is a better lens, better af, better optics, etc, but the sigma is still a good lens. The nikon is a constant f4 so it is faster than the sigma, not by much though. If you can afford the extra $250 I'm sure it would be worth it, but I don't think you'd be disappointed with the sigma.

Canon offer a 10-22 which is only $750, pity you didn't buy a canon slr ;)

Weird, why would they make two such simialr lenses. I'm assuming you still get what you pay for, it can't be as good as the 12-24. I'm not up on what all the initials mean on sigma lenses but the only difference seems to be a DG vs a DC....

I didn't notice that until you pointed it out.

DG (DG Lens)
These are large-aperture lenses with wide angles and short minimum focusing distances. With an abundance of peripheral illumination, they are ideal lenses for Digital SLR Cameras whilst retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRs.

DC (DC Lens)
These are special lenses designed so that the image circle matches the smaller size of the image sensor of most digital SLR cameras. Their specialized design gives these lenses the ideal properties for digital cameras, the compact and lightweight construction is an added bonus ! including compact and lightweight construction.

I like the sound of more compact and lightweight as well....
I think I will wait for that lense and see some reviews...
and see what happens to the price of the DG as well.
