I have to try this. Some of them look just like 3d renders.

So weird that you mention this. I have been planning for a few days to do this. Maybe we should start a thread...how about this one? to show off our liquid sculpting.

His setup will be way better then mine will ever be.

I have some hologen lamps and a rebel XT and a 20D to work with.

He has a entire lighting kit and studio and a mechanical dropper and shutter mechanism...luuuucky :)

Yes, to get the reallg good shots you need one of those photosensors - so when the drop passes it it triggers the flash. And you can set the delay to different times. If you are electronicly minded im sure you could knock a little one up, the specs are all over the web.

Yeah but lack of funds is where the problem lies :)

Preliminary Testing Shot (http://flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?p=3398044#post3398044)

This was taken at a 45 degree down angle in a controled environment handheld. You need a ton of light for these. I should have some more later.

Ok so I got bored and did a 150 shot shoot trying to get something and this is what I cam up with. The key is NO light with a flash...about 80-80 shots in I figured the hologen lights I had blasting on the setup was crap :)

Sorry there is so many...:)

Hey WannaBe those are really good. I might have to try some today, i wonder if my macro flash will do the job. I've heard that the secret to getting really good ones is to release the drop ionto only a really thin layer of liquid in the tray.

Very nice Wannabe, were you just guessing when to release the shutter?

I think a shot like that with a row of drops would be cool... or an array, like rain

When I did a shoot last week I actually got a slave around my dorms to drop it high for me and told me when it was dropping and I waited to catch it in my vision and then release the shutter.

But last night once I got over th fact you don't need to blast the scene with flood lights and used the flash. It was still dimly lit so I raised it arms length above the tray (i used the food coloring dropper thing) and waited for it to drop traced it with my eyes and right when I thought it was about to hit pressed the shutter down. Gotta love digital, 100's of shots at no cost got a few OK ones. Will be doing much more experimenting this weekend as I have nothing better to do.

Have to give credit to EVP for telling me to trail the drop instead of waiting for it. More accurate shutter release.

Thanks. I think I am done with the drop shoots until I can think of something totally different to try out.

Any ideas anyone?

My setup was a little different. I took a glass pan like you guys had and turned it upside-down, and put a night-light in it. then I put a see through colored plastic plate on top and filled with clear water. Changed the colored plate from purple to red (well, it might be a dark pink). I dripped clear water from a straw.

24 total photos with 7 usable ones.....not too shabby, if I do say so myself.
