What do you all think of giving prints of your own work as gifts? Being a little strapped for cash this year I thought i'd give it a bash!

I was thinking this image for my mother :

And this for my girlfriend's parents : (they used to live right by the loch in this photo)

I'm going to get the top one printed just bigger than A2 but I am struggling to find a site that'll print the pano at a reasonable size, any ideas?

Thanks, Robb.

The picture of the trees in the mist on my blog, my mom is obsessed about it. So for part of her gifts I am getting it printed and framed.

Strapped for cash? Getting prints made(and framed?) can cost quite a bit too.

yeah nice idea. not sure it's going to be cheap though.

i made my parents a calendar of my photos for christmas (my mum likes my photos).

does kind of remind me of when i was little though and i'd make any old piece of crap and my parents would love it hmmm

You trying to tell me something about my photos? :p

Anyway... I can get matt prints made, just bigger than A2 for about $30... I won't bother getting it framed, just title and sign it in white pen and roll it up it a nice tube or something...

I'll let you know how I get on ;)

I am reading this thread and think it would be a good idea to let you know what my presents are for Christmas.
I bought a canvas for artists, you know that primed stuff you can paint on, cut it into A4 pieces, set my printer on "envelope or thick material" level and print out a photo of my choice. The result is a neat picture looking almost like a real painting just one with a very smooth surface.
I fix that on a stretcher...

(here is a link how to do it...

...and the result is a most unique and individual present.
Add one of those barock frames or any other frame you like and you got a real eyecatcher on your wall.

Hope my english is not to bad and I can bring my point across ;)

:o you know i didn't mean that, right?!!

frex, cool idea :)

i'm hoping to eventually get some prints done on canvas for my rather bare walls at home, was thinking something a bit bigger though. but then it gets pricey and you can't do a DIY job.

would be cool to see your end results.

i think its a great idea as long as the frame is nice.

also its a personal thing, nothing u can just buy from any old shop esp when its a family member or close friend,

it gives me an idea about a pressent to give to my girlfriend

Can't show you an end result right now as I am still searching for affordable frames.

Here is a photo to compare what it looks like after printing a jpg on canvas...

Now all I need is a reasonable barock frame and it is going to be a nice present.

@carly1979...I bought ten A4 canvas with stretchers for app 20 Euro, shipping included at Ebay.

I did that once. I went through a faze where I tried running anything I could through my printer to see how it came out. I think canvas worked really well, I liked the outcome.
