Hello everyone - nice forum, my first visit.

Well, I need some help. I always used to be able to just plug my canons into my pc and download the images - suddenly (a year after i last downloaded images) I cant! XP cant detect the cameras any more and cant find the right software. The only changes I have made in the last year is to get a new copy of XP with SP2. Does anyone have a solution?

btw. I do have a card reader but would prefer to just be able to plug the cam straight in the pc.

Cheers y'all

Uninstall SP2 if possible, i've only heard bad things about it...

If not, try uninstalling everything Canon related on your system, drivers and all, see if that helps?

I am using a Nikon and had the same problem just some days ago after I downloaded Media Player 10...I dunno about Canon but probably it is the same or similar to Nikon.
There are 2 modes in the Nikon menu how to connect the camera to your system:
1. Mass Storage (self detecting USB device)
2. PTP (picture transfer protocol)
Try to switch to the other mode and maybe your camera is back again.
btw.PTP could be a little slower than Mass Storage!
