I'll get on this in a couple of days ;)

02-06-2006, 05:27 PM
spoil sport...

02-06-2006, 05:35 PM
This is very much against the rules, but this week I am without a digital camera and I'm going on holiday half-way through it, so this is my small contribution.

Happy snapping :)

Nothing worse than a smart arse :D

Oh man, I just shot a couple of rolls experimenting with DOF and my scanner is broken... :(

02-06-2006, 07:31 PM

02-06-2006, 07:44 PM
aww man i dont have an slr

You don't need one! Just fiddle with the apature settings (if you can)

02-06-2006, 07:48 PM
You don't need one! Just fiddle with the apature settings (if you can)

I dont have those. I just have iso 100, 200, and 400. everything else is automatic. I'm itching to get me a Nikon D70s

02-06-2006, 08:02 PM
No images to post of yours E?

02-07-2006, 04:05 AM
I dont have those. I just have iso 100, 200, and 400. everything else is automatic. I'm itching to get me a Nikon D70s
You do, you just can't see them! Try zooming in as far as the optical lens will go (not into digital) and then focus or something, with something in the background. Take a piccy and you should find a small but pleasant amount of depth of field.

02-07-2006, 08:05 AM
Damn the last rule!!! This one (http://www.gallery.vt1gym.com/BlackAndWhite/guitar.jpg) would have been perfect. Yeah it's been done before but I had to.

02-07-2006, 08:37 AM
Did this today and my fingers are all frozen, so maybe it is not bokeh but blurryness from shaking of the cold outside

02-07-2006, 12:02 PM
is that some sort of garden thing? Very nice.

02-07-2006, 12:09 PM
Yes, it is garden deco, nice you like it :)

02-07-2006, 07:35 PM
Swoop up close

From a distance..

02-07-2006, 08:27 PM
Nice work gkbdave.

No images to post of yours E?Yeah, yeah, yeah. Been busy on a new contract, but I managed to squeze these off without even leaving my desk ;)

Just to show exactly how close everything really was.

02-07-2006, 08:47 PM
EV, those look really great, No. 1 is my favorite. Can you say what equipment, aperture, shutter speed, etc. you used?

02-07-2006, 08:53 PM
All of them were with my 20D resting on my desk except for the last one.....hand held - ISO 400 - 55mm - f5.6 - between 1/30 and 1/20 sec.

Nothing special. Oh, and I pulled a tad bit of the red out using the Color Balance Palette.

02-08-2006, 07:31 AM
:p i wonder if this counts http://www.hyelabs.com/tigran/focus.html

02-08-2006, 09:24 AM
Thats pretty cool, its an awesome flash example too...

02-08-2006, 06:30 PM
cool stuff everyone. i like the cars E...i might have a few of those laying around...

i had 4.2 minutes today to sneak out and get some snaps in the yard.
this is all i got:

02-09-2006, 12:25 AM
That first one is too cool...bokeh in the fore- and background!
Good example!!

02-10-2006, 06:13 PM
OK, I'll play along this week
Brutal honesty requested

played with levels, contrast and such

02-11-2006, 07:12 AM
yasunobu13, i like the middle one best :)

top one, i find the yellow bit a bit too distracting, i guess it's maybe how you planned it, but i would prefer it if it was just the top of the post and the background. i really love the texture in this one though. rust is good.

the last one, is quite cool, but the piece in the foreground still looks a little out of focus to me, not as cripsy clear as i would have liked.

ok, that was me being brutal; here's me just being honest- i actually quite like them all :)

02-14-2006, 08:21 AM
A few shots from my weekend away:

02-14-2006, 09:37 AM
Been a while, work was moving into a new building, and I lost my router at home, so had a miserable two weeks without internet

barely updated my gallery online through my mobile and worrying already about the phone bill this month

so here's some Bokeh shots I had before, might try to add a few more soon

02-14-2006, 09:39 AM

02-14-2006, 09:42 AM
and another one, I was testing the macro, and I like it :)

02-14-2006, 09:43 AM
My trusty -almost rusty- Dell I8k ;)

02-14-2006, 09:54 AM
I just realized the last rule for the Themed Photography, mine are all older than one week :(

will I be sent to jail? ;)

I'll get some new ones soon

But tonight it's about that special someone, smothering me in silly heart shaped stuffed beanie bears and us going to a Photography gallery that the artist has a thing for me ;)

02-14-2006, 11:16 AM
OK, the arm... leg?....
Nords love the flowers, lighting and colour are awesome.
LittleMatt: The pegs are kick ass.
Yasu: Watch chain and the chess board are lovely.
Very nice people!

02-14-2006, 12:43 PM
lol it's the mediterranean blood, thank god our women aren't that hairy :)

02-14-2006, 01:04 PM

02-14-2006, 01:15 PM

02-14-2006, 01:32 PM
HAHAHA! Pawned!

02-14-2006, 03:50 PM
mine are all older than one week :(

will I be sent to jail?As punishment for your crimes you must shave those hairy ass legs.....NOW!

02-14-2006, 03:55 PM
I concur!
*hands you one of her pink razors*

02-14-2006, 06:08 PM
Should I open the cam while doing so??

you know you'll have to pay the 19.95$ subscribtion

@Natsia with all that hair I can actually afford to use pink razors, no worries here ;)

the other day in the super market, a girl in the Mach 3 Turbo plus extra...etc tried to convince me to buy the new vibrating razor blades, battery operated, like Yeah right, that's what I need, three sharp blades vibrating near my neck veins :p

02-15-2006, 01:06 AM
Hey this is my first post in here so don't be too mean ;)

I call it "After Work"

02-15-2006, 06:42 AM
NICE very well done
a bit too dark though

glad more people are getting to post, now post your hairy leg pic :p

02-15-2006, 09:31 AM
I like it the way it is...the dark light gives it some atmosphere...my first impression was, it was taken in the sleeping room but then saw the reflection of the cooker in the microwave's door.
Why do you take your watch off in the kitchen?
wonder...wonder!! :D

02-15-2006, 11:22 AM
Studio Apartment ;)

02-15-2006, 12:25 PM
Studio Apartment ;)
bingo :p
I considering using PS to remove the reflection but that was decidedly not the point of this game.

02-15-2006, 01:22 PM
JW: we almost have the same watch!

02-15-2006, 02:31 PM
thanks, that makes me feel like a manly man...

02-15-2006, 02:52 PM
Natsia did you move my pink razors??

Ohh that was JWin...

02-16-2006, 03:03 PM
No but I did nick your shaving cream.

Happy Pixel

dude, that is NICE gesteves! tight control. and, it's nice to see the the circles back...this thread had been bokeh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh) free for a couple pages now (in the traditional sense.)

what kind of keyboard is that?

02-20-2006, 11:22 PM
Thanks! Shot with my brand new camera (PowerShot A620) :D

That's the PowerBook's backlit keyboard, by the way.

03-03-2006, 10:06 PM
dude, that is NICE gesteves! tight control. and, it's nice to see the the circles back...this thread had been bokeh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh) free for a couple pages now (in the traditional sense.)

what kind of keyboard is that?

But the 'circles' are undesirable ;)

03-04-2006, 02:00 PM
what circles? am i missing something??

03-04-2006, 02:24 PM
what circles? am i missing something??

Bokeh is the term used for specular highlights that are so blurred due to depth of field they appear as circles.

See in the top left corner of the keyboard pic?

03-04-2006, 02:39 PM
thanks robb

03-04-2006, 02:49 PM
Perfectly explained Robb!! :)

03-04-2006, 03:34 PM
No worries Carly ;)

And cheers Frex! :)

03-06-2006, 05:32 PM
i really must start posting on these weekly things

some great photos in this thread

03-07-2006, 12:00 PM
took me a while to get in on this theme!!

does this count....

03-07-2006, 04:32 PM
It has a shallow depth of field which is good!

Try the same shot again, but have a highlight in the background and you'll see the bokeh effect.

Try a candle, or a maglight with the top off.

03-07-2006, 04:38 PM
thanks for the tip robb. do you mean with the light in shot or just lighting the background?

03-07-2006, 04:57 PM
With the light in shot.

Here's a crude demonstration of bokeh, in the top image the green light is in focus and you can see that the circular light is at an angle to the camera (it's skewed a little). In the bottom image it's out of focus and appears as a perfect circle and alot larger.

Don't worry if you can't get it right, it's often thought of as being a bad thing in an image as it distracts from what is actually in focus :D

Edit: Just noticed there's a healthy amount of Bokeh on this :

03-09-2006, 07:51 AM
thanks for that robb- if i get a chance (if the cat sits still long enough again) i'll try doing it again with a candle in the background.

03-09-2006, 12:40 PM

03-09-2006, 03:39 PM
That camera is HUGE haha. Like a brick.

lol its not as big as it looks really, tho it is about 3 years old, it does my girlfriend for pics, its a nice 5mp camera. shes not one for photography just taking pics at partys and walks and stuff.

03-14-2006, 05:34 PM
i know im a bit late on this weeks theam but just came up with this pic from my new d50

03-17-2006, 04:22 AM
I am very glad i found this thread. Im a very novice photographer, but i love it. (yes, i get the strange looks when im lying in the garden shooting a flower upside down.)

I have a Canon Powershot (something) Im not even sure what it is called... It was given to me for my 21st b'day and i havent stopped using it since.

I'll get my act together though and see what i can come up with for the next theme?
when are the themes posted?

03-17-2006, 06:11 AM
hello :)

the themes were originally weekly, but have got less and less frequent of late (gives more people the chance to post something i guess!). i don't think the new themes are posted at any particular time- just as and when EVP gets round to it i think and once the old theme has run it's course.

i'm hoping a new one will pop up soon actually....

look forward to seeing some of your photos.

03-17-2006, 12:34 PM
Yeah, now that I have some theme ideas I should be able to get back to a weekly schedule. That was really the hardest part.

03-17-2006, 06:54 PM
Excellent, well you can count on me to post some photos, i dont use photoshop or anything so you will only see what i take.

But i cant wait to join in.

03-26-2006, 09:44 PM
Here's mine.

Camera: Canon EOS 350D
Lens: Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Shutter Speed: 1/125 sec.
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 200

Post processing: Minor tonal adjustments, pushed the saturation a little, and slightly sharpened with unsharp mask.

03-27-2006, 04:05 AM
oh im liking that one

03-27-2006, 07:36 PM
oh im liking that one

;) Thanks.

03-27-2006, 11:35 PM
What is it, you name "Here's mine" ?

03-29-2006, 07:53 PM
What is it, you name "Here's mine" ?

Just wait for the image to load...

03-29-2006, 08:25 PM
I think what he means is that no one can really tell what it is. I am also wondering what was actually in focus? Just curious...

03-29-2006, 08:47 PM
i think its a tip of some sort of flower

not to sure i think its still slightly out of focus

03-29-2006, 09:09 PM
i think its a tip of some sort of flower

not to sure i think its still slightly out of focus

It's dead pine needles. And I guess you could see it as out of focus, but I thought it looked too cliche having the focus on the tips of the needles.

05-16-2006, 10:49 AM
Yes, its my mouse right in front of me...at this moment !
Loads of Bokeh effect on the left side of pic.

06-19-2006, 11:40 AM
Some accidental Bokeh!

06-19-2006, 11:57 AM
Accidental? Did you drill a whole for a dowel and hit the waterpipe? :p
Nice waterfall you got there...if I were you I would not take a bath anymore, just shower! :D

06-19-2006, 03:57 PM
Was just wondering the same thing, this is some WEIRD shower head you have there :)

pics of the full thing?? with you OUT of the tub please :p
