can someone pull up the usages for people using anything less than IE7? i dont even know where to look for that. im thinking that alot of people have upgraded to IE7 since its free and a part of the normal windows updates. i want to know if i can eliminate the need for developing for IE6 safely yet, or when ill be able to.

Thank you kind souls. :)

Those statistics are for people visiting the w3schools web site, not exactly a general web user base, they even have a note about that at the bottom of the stats.

If you're looking for a more general and wider user sample check thecounter.com (http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2007/January/browser.php)

For Jan 07:

1. MSIE 6.x 54967151 (63%)
2. MSIE 7.x 17674923 (20%)
3. FireFox 9612257 (11%)
4. Safari 2499466 (3%)

These show more people adopting IE7 but also a much higher figure for IE6 and a much lower figure for FF. I think it will be a long time before you can ignore IE6.

grr, thank you very much for that resource. now to convert my site compatibility to IE6!

maybe i should just have it redirect to a big page that says "GET A REAL BROWSER"

No worries but to be honest with you I think the onus has passed and these days there's no reason you can't code your site for any of the popular browsers.
