Hello everyone...

I would like to know how different people would go about creating the animated line man in the intro to this site...

I have my ideas but would like to compare them with others...

Cheers, Pietaster.

i would probably record a video of a person moving, and then strip each of the frames down to a bare line.

well you can even take a digital camera that takes ten seconds of movies, like 16 pics within 10 seconds or something like that a series. Then you just edit it frame by frame and strip it down to the lines, or any effect you want to use on it.
like http://www.the-control-group.com or http://www.cafe-infinity.com
always the same, though for the real smooth look you'd be best off with a digital video camera that records in mpeg.
I have tried a little bit myself with it at http://www.iceberg2000.de but the outcome was pretty bad.

good luck.

it's probably traced frame by frame... that's what it looks like...

just export the mpeg frame by frame... import the whole mess... and then trace each keyframe and dump the pics when you're through...

If you have Poser you can create these oultlines as well. You still need to traace them and all but is handy if you don't have digital video.

Except if you want a typical stylish illustration, you'll have to go through the whole proces of creating a freaky muppet or something. My experience is that customers often don't want an animated character look to typical (it's frightening), in that case an outline style looks great for suggesting a person.

Use Poser export anim sequence as .3ds and import in Vecta3D (or Swift), export to .swf, import in flash, edit a lot and presto... http://www.deform.net/030.html
