Does anyone else have massive problems using dial up networking using Win2k Pro, getting errors like remote host not responding, invalid password, can't connect often taking 6 attempts to get on and up to 2 minutes to authenticate....arrrrrGGGGGGHHHHHHH? Please tell ne there is a fix..

yup! the office gate way never authenticates and Times out on Vailidation.
Have you ran the service pack yet? If not - do that if fixed most probs for me - if not - drop me an email and I'll have a nose round for you! :)
