LOL = Laughing Out Loud
When the subject is funny you'll say LOL. However, do you actually laugh?
to me, when I say...
LOL - the subject sounds funny, but I'm not laughing.
LOL heheh - the subject is funny, but I'm just smiling.
LOL hahahah - the subject is funny, and I'm actually laughing.
LOL bwahahahah - the subject is very funny, and I'm laughing out loud.
usually just a chuckle :D
I'd have to admit I do, especially when I'm chatting with people on MSN :D

Most of the time LOL is internal laughter. Some times I do literally Laugh Out Loud.
My little brother thinks I'm crazy. . :)

I find it even harder to imagine people are being truthful when the type ROFL.
It would seem odd that any amuzing topic would cause someone to get out of their chair, lay on the floor, and start rolling around laughing. Such shinanigans would likely land you in an asylum of some sort.
