okay, if this is true im kinda up s**t creek..
ive got mx, and need to build a cd-rom mp3 player, (as well as a video one, and other content that will be on the cd)
so in essence i need to load these files with the loadmovie command. this is where i've heard there are problems with stuttering and the like..
am i going to be hampered by this ?
any one had similar problems..?
or is there a way round it?
The stuttering bug shows up when medium to large swf files when loaded into another flash movie. To the best of my knowledge, this effects only the standalone player. There is no way around the problem at the moment other than to join the rest of us in waiting for MM to fix it. (Bang head here) I honestly have never dynamically loaded just the audio file so maybe you won't see the problem. However, I would go and refill your Valium prescription just in case.

what is classed as a medium to large swf file? I am having a similar problem but it seems to be intermitent and doesn't occuro n higher end machines.
I have a main standalone which loads in swf files with a streaming voice-over, when the 4th - 5th consectutive file is loaded the stuttering starts, have thought of self-terminating myself everytime this has occured in from of my client, after yet another compress flash session, well my mp3 is down to 32kbps and I can't go any lower. Does it still occur if you compress as a wav file? or run from a swf instead of a stand alone?
people must have gotten around this is cd-roms are still being produced in flash.
oh and one more thing. this problem is yet to occur on a mac, only on PC's for me, and only when running off the CD, when we copy it to the HD it is fine.
The problem is VERY intermittant. I ran a test the other day that consisted of about 20 external swfs being sequentially loaded into a main movie. It made it through all 20 swfs twice in a row and then failed on about the 4th file on the third try.
By medium to large files I am saying 300K on up, although honestly I can't say that a smaller file might cause the problem sometime as well.
Also, the problem seems to only happen when running from a CDROM. Others have experienced it when running from a HD but I believe they admit it happens that way infrequently. I have never seen it except when running from a CDROM.

In the 'Standalone Choppy on CDROM' thread, the guy got it working on using a preloader and a dummy swf file to kick start the cd spinning before he loaded in the bigger swf.
I will do anything as this is getting a tad urgent.

We tried importing different sound file types, but it didn't seem to matter. Now I always just import .wav files and then let Flash publish as mp3 or the new 'speech' compression scheme available in MX. I feel that this gives me the easiest solution as I will be exporting my stuff with different sound qualities for people with different internet connections.
How am I getting around the problem you ask? I'm not! I am hanging around these boards being a complete butthead by leaving messages for MM on a weekly basis and making sure the issue doesn't die. In the mean time I try to convince my boss to keep paying me because I am not as big of an idiot as it seems. They say they are working on a fix so I am waiting...If I hear something you can be assured I will post it here.

I think I'm having the same problems with the sound stuttering. It is very elusive and only happens sometimes on certain pc's - but like the rest of you - soemtimes is not good! I am doing the exe thing then linking swf's via buttons on a CD project. I am using .wav files for both my background music and voiceover. The voiceover files are on "streaming" as opposed to "event" because of the graphic intensity of the project. Will I need to change all the voiceover files to "event" and backoff the graphics? What's really odd is it has only happened on semi-higher end processors!! On the slower machines, it just plays a little choppier but it doesn't start the st-t-t-t-tuttering thing.
It always seems to happen - although randomly - when a button is pushed (stop - unloadmovie) from the main "static" page just at the right moment and the (loadmovie) swf loads. Like Azflasher - I can test several times - nothing - then - boom th-e-e-r-e- i-t i-i-i-i-s j--u-u-u-s-s-s-t l-i-i-k-k-k-e-e this! It's almost as if the processor has completely bogged down and can be fixed no other way than ecaping the presentation altogether and putting back in.
Will changing to "event" sound help? That maybe the only thing I can do at this point - but I will def. have to backoff some of the graphics!!! CRAP!
I am going to an event sound and sacrificing snappy animation to sound stuff. has anybody had it occur with event?

check out these two post. I have had my presentation (same setup as yours) run perfectly on a p1 in a net cafe (probably one of the most abused machines in the world), but then I play it on my clients machine (p4), I def. think it is a problem to do with win2000 and XP, as I have never had it on a mac, and it works fine on win 98, also I hear there is a package 1 or 2 in win 2000, and I have had it work perfect in 1 and in the other version it does it every time....

Thanks for your reply. This is def. a severe problem as most of my business is Flash CD presentations!!! I think you're right about the XP/2000 variation thing because I have a new Dell PC and the presentation off the cd works perfectly everytime and I cannot get it to do otherwise - BUT - I have a friend with a "built" system and my wife has a new Dell laptop at her work - on those it happens!
Thank God I wasn't in the middle of a project when finding this out - we were actually working on our own sample CD when this started happening. I ran 250 of them - so I'm out that expense - but it could have been much worse if I sent the CD's out as samples!!! That would have been great for a prospective client to put this badass presentation into their computer only to start stuttering.
I am going to go back and change every voiceover and music piece in the CD to "event" and I'll let you know if that works. The odd thing is - the initial exe is the intro, it's set up on streaming as well - but that doesn't stutter at any point on any system - it's only the swf's off the static page. I read on one of the posts that if you publish in Flash5 it won't do it - the only problem there is of course - you loose all your component stuff like video, scrolling, etc.

I have tried setting it to event and it still happens. ARGH! so I am going to load all my sound in my projector file and then play when the loaded in swf comes in. hopefully this will fix the problem. I am also going to try exporting as aiff and wav instead, this will increase the file size, but it is off CD and if it fixes the problem I shall be a very happy lady.
I have also found that it never occurs on my intitial loaded in movie (_level1), but only when there is consecuive flash files loaded in.
nuh uh for Flash 5. I am using Flash 5 and the problem still occurs.

I can't say anything about loading the sound and the .swf files separately, but I am quite sure exporting the sound as different formats will not make a difference. I have done testing importing the audio files with different formats and exporting with different formats-it just doesn't matter.
I am interested to hear if the trick with loading the sound files seperately works.

I imported as aif and exported the sound as raw and the problem did not occur on the machine it has done so before on, yet to test extensively, also another test I did with the sound on my _level0 projector and the loaded in swfs triggering did not cause any stutter rap.
this is in flash5, so I don't know if that makes a difference, are you in mx?
