Easy Update Web Site?

I have a client who wants a site where they can go in and edit text, but they don’t know HTML and don’t want to mess up any code or use FTP.

What’s the best technology for making this happen? Coldfusion?

I know MySQL and PHP and thought of making my own user interface the retrieves and stores data from a MySQL database. But this would require me to create everything from scratch.

Any suggestions?

XML!!!! :)

Look up WIKI web tools. It lets you update pages with a web browser. Only problem is that anyone visiting the site can update a page.

Why doesn't your client learn what FTP is. It'll take him what? 5 minutes to learn? Also, he can get a free HTML editor. Or pay you for future updates :D

Can you explain this a little more? I know XML, but how would the client go about deleting/editing XML documents?

I guess they'd still hafta use FTP... but if their gonna update it themselves, there is no other way than FTP!

XML is simple, they can edit it in notepad :) http://www.w3schools.com

If they just want to update content, how about installing a weblog of some sort?

Or you could always teach them the way of Linux and download a free app that lets them edit the text!

would you be creating his site and want him to edit periodically ?
with my web hosting package , there is a full fledeged online Site Designer inbuilt .. he can create his site from scratch by using templates ... and upload his own text , pictures whatever or use the existing graphics if he likes them . there are lots to choose from .

Um, sorry. ASP has been ported to Linux, there is Chillsoft ASP and I think an Apache ASP.

Just not ASP.net

That Chillsoft (now SUN ONE) is a joke.

Haven't heard of Apache ASP.

Most hosts provide ASP though...correct?

ASP.net in theory can be available on any platform...and use any language.

Most people are going to go with Microsoft though to save trouble.

I bet someone is working on a linux version right now..

Calm down...I just was asking...not familiar with hosting packages.

I just made my little pro-ms blurb....he can use anything he wants.
