punishment fits the crime??

you gotta laugh....
saw this today in our local paper -

A candy thief has been ordered to pass out halloween treats at a local kids hospital ward while wearing a sign saying 'Sorry. I will not steal from children' after pleading guilty to attempted robbery (attempted, i like that bit :D) for stealing trick or treat candy from a 10 year old boy last halloween.

The 23 year old knocked down a 10 year old boy before stealing his candy.....brave guy with a sweet tooth, huh?

they shoiuld have sent him to jail for the night and handed out candy to the inmates, I'm sure they'd have appreciated having someone new around the place.

Incidentally, wasn't there some ruling that "humiliating" punishments were unconstitutional ("Cruel and unusual")

I'm in the UK so I'm just going on what I learnt during A-Level Politics.

Fortunately its not my car in the picture, its my neighbours, according to the firemen who put it out, 60 cars are burnt out here in Swansea every week. If the firemen do go on strike, this city is gonna burn.

I can see an investment opportunity for car companies here.
Pay the kids to torch the cars, then suddenly cut prices by a grand or so for the week following the torchings...
