Anyone downloaded the new winamp?
Let me know if it is worth the download.
Its good... but the beta of windowsmediaplayer9 is much better :D
where can we download that betaversion of wmp9 ?
Yes but the Nullsoft EULA and Uninstall routine is much better. And it runs on 95 and 98 while the MS stuff doesn't.
i've only had a few problems with winamp3 and it usually has to do with the transparency settings and the crossfader settings
otherwise it's kick ass
its decent, but i would still keep 2.x for music, as it seems to be a lot quicker and uses less ram also, from what i've heard.
The XP version won't. There's a version for 98 and later.Quote:

It is in RC1 now....they've added about 5 new features that I can see.

Don't bother with W3, I went back to the latest 2.x version.
It took over everything (well most things) on my machine.
Are you sure about that?Quote:

MS hasn't produced MS WMP for 98 since 7.X No 8.X for 98 and 95 users.
Likewise what about that EULA and lack of Simple uninstal routine...
WinAmp 3 can play Windows media types and I would rather deal with the Nullsoft EULA than the MS Trojan EULA.
I dont really like it. I preferred 2. Jsut from easier to use adn quicker to load!
Positive. :)Quote:

Can you play streaming media though?
Music and video yes. It plays all the WMP 8 files.
The new ones video ones. Nope, that's what QT 6 is for or a DNA client.
Does WMP play Ogg??
I've never had to play ogg files in my life. :p
WMP supports all of the technologies I use..except for realplayer. ;)
4 letters: XMMS.
Winamp3 runs like a dog! Eats memory like there's no tomorrow and frequently crashes. I kept getting a database error. I posted a problem about it on the Winamp website, many people replied with the same problem. To fix it, you had to delete the db files from a certain directory. Then restart winamp. It would then run fine for a few days, then the errors would start again, so I'd have to delete the db's...
WMP9 I've installed and it works like a dream! :) No problems so far and I've used it for streaming (audio and video), playing many different formats, skinning it... its just so much easier...
The best part of WMP9 though, has to be the amazing auto playlist features. Selecting music by mood, when it was last listened too, AM/PM, all kinds of other things. Its great for those of us with a large media collection, or that just like to hear something different every now and again :)

puwhahahah @ markp. XMMS is linux's media player, what not.
iTunes
What does xmms do? Sounds like a 1980s beatbox ;)Quote:
itunes... I thought that was an mp3 walkman? *Goes to look*
XMMS is basically an 8-track emulator... didn't you know!?
:p
I had no problems skinning WA. All you need is a series of XML files ziped and renamed. I even made my own basic skin. I don't have a problem with its playlists. As Real opened up the DNA format plan to see that added to WinAmp.Quote:

With MP3 patent royalties changes expect to see more ogg.
It does eat some memory but its not so bad that I can overlook its advantages... I have quite a bit of memory anyhow- not really an issue for me.
WMP 9.0- I won't install it with its EULA. If they want me to install they will have to change their EULA http://www.xenoclast.org/free-sklyar...er/003247.html . It also has DRM in it. As I am actively fighting DRM technolgies that don't garantee fair use as a right do you think that for 1 second I would agree to the EULA??? I've also read that it can't be uninstalled without rolling back the system.
Clif MS WMP isn't all I would need anyhow- assuming I would agree to their liscensing terms. No OGG, DNA/Real ,SWF, or Mpeg4 or even MOV v4, v5, or v6. I'd still have to have Real and QT and WA.
