scrolling speed test...

i just wanted to test a scrolling with my new work-in-progress:

here's the scrolling version:

i was just wondering if the scrolling is smooth with your machine?
knowing that i can surely speed it up a little bit more, with another swapDepth method... and maybe also by using attached MCs...

the window size is pretty small (as small as a real snes game in fact)...

the second link i couldnt get 2... and im not sure but the 1st one seemed more like screen by screen... nice though fast and nice ;)

scrolling is fast, however the way you have it set up, I can outrun it and get out of the screen, lock it on the character. its a bit mindspinny otherwise.

you are right, the character's speed is a bit faster than the background.
i just wanted to test if the game is smooth, nothing more; this one is just a detail that can be fixed in no time ^^

Scrolling version runs very smooth here (at the girlfriends house).

Machine:
Pentium 1.8ghz
128 megs of RAM

Working great! The scrolling is really smooth. I like the scrolling a lot better, it is annoying waiting for each section to load... And the screen size is okay.. depends what you want to do with the game, but to me its good size.

Ya, speed up the scrolling a bit.

I am now working (trying really hard actually) to make my first multiplayer game! It is actually work out really well. It will be a one on one game (pic you opponent and so on). Found a good server that comes with .as files that have a whole bunch of preset functions (makes things really easy!). Only problem will be to try and find a place to run the server... hehe..

i'm glad to hear the scrolling is smooth ^^
to be honest, it slows down with my old G3 400mhz (time to upgrade?).
i tried a fps counter, it stays at 60 without scrolling (=max), but sometimes go down to 50/45fps when there are a lot of swapDepth elements on screen...

creating a multiplayer game seems to be a challenge (never tried myself), so good luck

it means the first loading will be longer also...
so i'm heading for a mix between scrolling and screen after screen method (like zelda 3 in fact...)

that's just because i'm in front of my comp during the majority of my free time... really, i think it's the only reason.

Dont know how your scrolling works. but if you want the screen to always follow the character. I've got this code.

(Character must exist in a universe Mclip,all objects that will be scrolled exist inside as well)

wait, there's still no enemies, no bushes to destroy... it means: slowdowns to come, unfortunately...

thanks for your code. but i don't really want the scrolling to act like that, always focused on the character ^^
i already improved my scrolling code (offline), it's exactly the same as the online version except that it adopts the speed of your character... if you have a slow character, then slow scrolling... the online version is here only for speed test...
i'll have to rework the dialog boxes though, cause now they are sometimes bigger than the screen size...

anyway, for those who wonder, my scrolling code is not more complicated than mr. malee's one... it's quite similar in fact ^^

runs nicely as well. I use it on some platform games.

yep,but nothing big,i talked with marmotte in another thread of his about his fk member village some time ago and and preordered my house for it :)
(i want a house at the beach),i can support him with a level editor,beach tile graphics and some little games to play when meeting me at my house (for the case i´m not currently chilling),depending on what marmotte wants/needs.

to marmotte: by the way, i just had an idea: why not implement a clock into the thing which controls daytime and which persons/homes/games/activities are accessible?
i guess that would be fun and keep people coming back for more several times a day (and wouldn´t be too hard to code,too),well,just an idea...
