I bought a new video card for my computer (Gforce) and it runs fine in my computer for a few minuets after windows is loaded, but then the screen will freeze. The mouse won’t move and ctrl-alt-delete won’t do anything.
The only problem I can think of is that the fan on the video card is not working properly. Does anyone have any other ideas to what the problem might be?
what OS are you using?
win 2000 pro.

have you checked your event logs, and seen anything that would amount to either a conflict of resources, or any other errors?
to check your event logs, right click My Computer, choose Manage. Then expand Event Viewer, and search the System and Application logs. Look for errors that are near the times you are experiencing these crashes.
Also, how much power does your Power Supply for your computer put out? I'm hoping more than 230 watts. Pairing an Athlon and a GeForce - which version GeForce btw? - with that little amount of power can also cause issues.
Final thing... what version of DirectX and drivers are you running?
You might not be running the absolute newest versions.
Guess who also brought a GeForce MX and had the same problem? Yep, it's happened to me too. Is your monputer a Compaq? I've got a Compaq Presario and it's definately the worst computer ever.
In the meantime, I've found this often works : If you're using office or surfing the internet (or even using Flash or 3D programs) right click your desktop and click on properties. Click the "settings" tab and then click on the "advanced" button. You'll see another window with tabs at the top. Click on the "Trouble Shooting" tab and then drag the slider all the way to the left and click apply. It shouldn't crash no more.
When your playing games (most games that is) you can put the slider up to maximum and it shouldn't crash. You'll just have to start the game proper before it crashes.
And yeah - what's your configuration?

My power supply is 250 watts. but is there a way I can make sure it is running correctly?
there's your problem, you have a athlon and your using a geforce 3 both use alot of power, a 250 watt powersupply just isn't going to suffice, not for that geforce as well as other vidcards you can buy nowadays.
So what kind of power source do I need? 350watts?
What other configuration information do you need from me?

300 bare minimum 350 would be better yeah.
Can I just put in a 350 Watt Power supply, or do I need a new mother board? I am looking in my MainBoard User's Guide and it does not say anything about Power Supply.
atx form factor powersupply should work if it doesn't fit then you got a very very very expensive motherboard (ie. tyan motherboard) in wich case you can spare the money to buy a new powersupply :P

At the moment I have a 15" but with the new video card I want to hook up my 21" monitor. Will this have an affect on the power suppy?

well u don't know yet if it's your psu for sure yet.. have u tried different Device drivers? or flash your bios?

look above... he/she didn't know what ATX is... could be a recipe for disaster flashing your BIOS, and not knowing how to recover just in case.
Well you do need lots of power to run these boards right? It seems like I don't have enough power and it is a new Video card, so I am guessing all I need is more power.
