......I'm committed to MX 2004 because I need to get the MX 2004 Developer Certification sometime in the far off future, but apart from that the point made is rather valid.

you need to learn the new technology added to flash mx 2004 professional (the version that deserves to be reffered as a new version).
that far off future must be before 2006 because after that you will need the MX 2006 Developer Certification :cow:Quote:

well I was impressed when I discovered it by accident last night
there are many new features and abilities in flash mx2004, it's true to say that many of the new features are improved or extended ways of doing things you could do before, rather than things you could not do at all in flash mx. I would say that there was a bigger jump in abilities between flash 5 and mx than there is in the this latest upgrade, mx 2004 is more about extending flash than enabling it so i can understand why people might be cynical but I think for the professional developer who will take advantage of the new features, especially the OOP scripting improvements, it's definitely worth it.

If you know AS1, you already know most of AS2. However, there are certtain conventions which are important to learn.
The key items I think a certification would help you with are the new features built in to Flash - forms-based construction, a new component architecture, etc. etc.
And employers are probably going to toss up the newest version of Flash on their necessary skills list anyhow, whether they need it or not. :D
I still love Flash, but this time I will not get the update till I have a project where I really need it. (No idea what this could be)
Now switching back to Flash 2. (I still have it somewhere) :p

Is there any way on earth to legally get those old versions of flash? It has been a dream of mine to install one of them, but I have never poped the question. And is there any screendump of future splash?
xtras are used in Director and Authorware to perform functions on the PC, import transitions, etc. they probably used them in the initial versions of Flash just because they were in their other existing products. not sure when they dumped them....Quote:

Xtras used to apply to pretty much all of MM's products, some could be shared between certain products too. A lot of times they were used for basic things like sound codecs, color palletes, jpeg/gif dll's, etc.
They were a pain in the ass when packaging your projectors or shockwave files.
I've often wondered if they would bring them back for flash as people have all these kooky requests, but i don't think they like the idea of the flash player needing to download certain components specified by the developer for movies. Then you have a cache of basically plug-ins for a plug-in...it's a big mess.
