News Scroller
Help.
I am a new flash user and have not much of a clue (yet).
I have an image I have brought into flash. On a certain area of this image I want to place a news scroller.
Can anyone tell me step by step how to add a news scroller? I have read the Flash MX maunal and have looked at everything on the net I could find but nothing I try seems to work.
Thank you for any help you could give.

Explain what you want a little better. Would this be a scroller like a news ticker at the Bottom of CNN or MSNBC? Or is this a text box which the user manually scrolls? News scroller is a little vague.

Okay.
I just found exactly what I am looking for.
Here it is http://www.cwd.dk/article.asp?articleid=99
Now that I have it I dont know how to place it into my image. I have so much to learn with Flash!
Check it out and let me know how I can place this into an image. When I try it places patches and other items over my image. Not sure what to do to make only the news panel show.
Thanks for your reply.

Explin a little more what you mean by "place it into your image."
Are you trying to superimpose this Flash-based scroller over an image and present it over the web?
If so, a few ideas, make your image the background of the HTML page or a table within the HTML page. Then add your swf over top of that.
Or, import your image into flash. Put that image on the bottom layer, so that other things can show overtop of it. Then in a layer above the Bg image layer, add your scroller into another layer. Then. publish your swf file, and you should have what you are looking for.
Personally, I would go with the second solution (if this, in fact, is what you are looking for.)

Well, I'm sure I am an idiot - Here is what I have done.
I created the entire index page of my website in photoshop. I then pulled the complete page into Flash thinking I could add tidbits of movement over my image (for example a news scroller).
I tried to do your second solution and here is what is happening.
All worked fine other than the news that is moving through the news panel. It now scrolls to the top of the screen instead of stopping at the top of the panel.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again for your help.

I am not sure about the fla that you posted the link to - I haven't really looked at it, but it sounds like it has to do with the way they are scrolling that text.
Try this:
Add a mask layer in front of the text layer in that FLA file, which is the SAME dimensions as the frame part of the news scroller. This will only show the text when is is within the dimensions of that mask layer. The test will still scroll to the top of the screen, but it will not be viewable to the end user.
