for example...
avatars are 32x32 pixels (I think) and there are 256 webSafe colours (I think) so there can only be like 262144 possible combinations...
Please note I didn't put to much thought into the above hypothesis, so go easy if it is wrong (which it probly is)...

you know... I've always contemplated the relation of infinite bigness to infinite smallness, and how in orders of 10, the universe in relation to the scale before and aft, while finite, could still be indefinitely described as infinite, or approaching infinity via it's relation to the other scales.
in otherwords, to an atom, our earth would be their universe, and to humans, our universe is huge, yet finite. so, to the universe itself... is there something even bigger?
and the atom, it has quarks and other subatomic particles. what are they made out of if there is infinite smallness?
there is a positive and negative infinity in all forms of mass, but where does it stop, and who's to say we're just at a small part of this whole thing?
it's full of flaws, but it's been something I randomly think about, as well as how light displays both wave and packet (photons) properties. how can that be so? do they have phase, and if so, how does it travel from one location to another? and the string theory. is it the best example/answer we have, or are we basically crippled by our inability to comprehend the fourth dimension?

As it looks now the string theory can be never proven as the extra dimensions are so small that you would need a particle accelerator of the size of our solar system to get to the energy level that would reveal those dimensions.
String theory is actualy just pure math and basicaly it has nothing to do with real science. For everything that is real science there must be a way to prove the theory. It's similar like if I would say that only I have consciousness and nobody else. It can't be proven or desproven.
But they are doing an experiment soon that will try to find out which of all those string theories just can't be true at all.

PS: Quantum theory is the most amazing things as after more then 50 years, scientist still don't know which interpretation of it is true ... multiple universes or not? Nobody knows.

String theory was a bit beyond my comprehension when I first tried to learn about it, I'll have another look soon tho. Big Bang and Steady State were the ones that interested me... like with the BB one, as far as you take it back, to even the "initial" ex/implosion what caused that? And then what caused that? And then...
It's impossible to calculate the results without a research of jpeg and gif compressions. Ya know, we not only have a width and height limit. And gifs can be animated, jpegs can be true color. And you will need to have the filesize somewhere in your formula as a limiting factor. It's not as easy as it looks first. ;)Quote:

i'd still like to see you explain it in words. showing the math is easy - we all know the rules.
you cant have less than 0 apples, so it is impossible to explain it like that. and you cant multiply anything physical with a negative number either. so you have to explain it like that, just like you have to explain that a^0=1
Try to prove with a computer that there is to every natural number a bigger number.
Example:
1 (There is a number 2)
251478 (There is a number 251479)
48974324897945648974 (There is a number 48974324897945648975)
You could easely win the Nobel-Price with such an algorithm. Have in mind, I'm talking about 100% prove and not a heuristic guess. So don't just write an app that trys out a billion numbers and then decides to define that as enough for a prove.
