strategy game for PC

Morning,

I'm trying to kick my online poker habit and because I am completely unmotivated at the moment, thought I'd have a crack at a new computer game.

I've not played PC games for years but used to love Civilisation.

Any reccomendations people ?

Civ III is quite good, but for something different, Sim City 4 is very good.

Warcraft III. If you want to go retro a bit, Red Alert 2 was awesome.

sounds like you already know that civ iii is the best game ever.

not sure if it's strategy but world of warcraft is really popular right now and i have several people trying to get me to buy it all the time while warning that it will take up all of my time. AND it costs money, so it might feel just like the real thing (online poker). :)

hmm, I've gone for rome - total war. I want more of a strategy than a rpg.

rome total war is a great game, played it for weeks. It's actually the game that stopped me from playing online poker for awhile. I eventually went back though. :D

Well... he might be talking about the expansion, which makes the game even more amazing. He could also be talking about AoE3, which is set to be out in Fall. Can't wait!

It may have come out many moons ago... but I just started playing it now... Age of Kings or something... the next one is Age of Mythology... Then the new versio sometime towards the end of the year :)

II was a gem indeed. Mythology is good too. But, not much of an advance in gameplay. I'm definitely looking forward to III as well. We'll have to exchange usernames for that so I can stomp you guys with the Celts! ;)

yea haha, Party Poker is the devil. Sometimes I go on big streaks there and then I lose. Do you play there a lot?

speaking of other strategy games I just got Empire Earth 2, which came out a few days ago. It's ok, but def not as good as the age of empires series.

Yeah. I do. I just play the single table no-limit tournaments for 5 or 10 dollars a game. I think I've been playing with the same 50-100 dollars for half a year. goes up and down up and down. sometimes i think its just a mindless gerble game and a tremendous waste of time. :)
