Is it possible to do something similar to the HTML input type="file" feature?
For example, user browsed their computer, selects a file and it attaches itself to my outgoing form.

Hahaha...man ...I'm a post bogart today. You sure can...but it's a bit more complicated than that.
Koolmoves nicely handles internal upload windows but you have to tweak existing Flash code to integrate with a backend like you want. I have a s**tload of upload routines coming that do exactly that. They are meant to be tied to say user profiles....instant additions to gallery dirs that are read back in at runtime, forum avatars routines...etc.
Unfortunately I could code 20 hours a day and never get everything online fast enough. Soon man. Soon.
Flash 8 has this function. Or if you dont have flash 8 you can use a hidding form and use Js and what not to call the select file window. I used the simplest option and created a html popup with the upload form in that.
Go flash 8. If you use an html form, you have to get those variables (image name or whatever else is in the html form) back into flash. Oh it can be done...but with you being able to export flash 8 from Koolmoves...you'd be nuts to waste the ton of coding it requires ( I know...I did it for years that way).
Especially if it is say a user profile where you want to let them upload/update their avatar. You have to associate the user with the html form or push that users login name to the form....and do the same when it posts to integrate with their database record. Just an example.
It's why the Flash 8 exported file uploads are far superior. It all integrates in one shot. Flash users begged for that for years.
I use an html form on my site for members to upload custom avators. I use "live connect" to send the information back to flash. Not had any reported problems with it.
I'm sure you don't. But the new routines smoke it. Koolmoves pumps F8 code so why walk backward. The people still using html are the ones who sacrifice the ability because they have chosen to not export F8 or want the F7 userbase (or lower). It's a tradeoff.
I am not nocking F8 i using new F8 functions within my C.M.S system for innovativedesigns before i move over totaly to F8 on the front end. It's a lot of work that i am not looking forward to.
I know. Mman...when i bumped up my 7 code went nuts : 0
Dupe post...disregard.
I could switch to F8 just now but it would mean atleast a couple of months ironing out bugs
No doubt...I've seen the site. I've been to your place before but never registered as I'm not much of a code buyer and would waste the database space. Why fix what isn't broke right? Dniezby is building whereas yours is built...so he needs to decide now what version he's gonna baseline and has to code within that versions abilities, like we all do.
My guess is if you converted up this minute...you'd be seeing the word "undefined" all over the place, not to mention whatever else could go wrong.
Yeh when i first updated to player 7 AS2 i was like WTF :S :yikes:
Left settings at player 6
Please do the site needs some life. it's about the only thing that it lacks.Quote:

I know what you mean....getting users to interact these days is like cutting teeth. It's why I don't code cms systems anymore ;)
Nah man i love it. Not much of a designer but i know the workings of flash+php+mysql like the back of my hand
You're definitely my type of coder. As soon as I can put my son down...I'll be over to register.
Hey while your at it sign my guestbook :)
Hey Paul, I just sent you a PM. I hit the keyboard and added an extra letter to my email when I regged. I saw it as I hit submit but it was too late.
I would have re-regged but your cookie writes before a successful login so it thinks I'm good.
Dont worry it is sorted now.
