Anyone use Media Temple?

I looked in the hosting thread already... not much there about it at all.

Just considering one of their dedicated plans right now. I am currently hosting several client sites and am planning to rollout a few applications of my own that require some intensive storage and memory.

Their site doesn't offer much in the way of MySQL admin details via plesk. I have never used plesk. I am sure it's great, I looked at their demo. I am just curious if I will have to install phpMyAdmin for each site I host there or what?

Any comments about Media Temple or suggestions for another host to look at are appreciated... once again,

don't post about your 100mb shared host.

I need 10-20 + GB / 512 - IGB + RAM / 300 GB + monthly transfer... multiple domains... php / mysql and all the trimmings :)

I used them for a couple of client sites on shared packages... They are one of the best hosts I've used (which is probably why they are so expensive)...

Great 24 hour tech support (which is important for me, cos I'm not in the USofA)
Sites were super fast and were never down (that I noticed anyway)

I've been looking into them as well due to problems with one of my current hosts (name withheld to not start a war in this thread).

In any event, the one thing I can say, as I've not switched yet, is that I've received better customer service from them NOT being a customer than I am with the aforementioned host despite being a customer for the last 4 years.

I frequently email questions/concerns to my host and rarely recieve a response back within less than 24 hours.

I emailed MT twice about a few questions I had about a few of their plans...with one hour I got a response back with an actual phone number of a person to call in case I needed more info. If their customer support is even remotely reflective of their pre-sales support, then they get a big thumbs up from me.

Probably best to go it alone... but I entertain the possibility.

Media Temple does not use cPanel. They have their own program, it is only alright. You can't beat the features and ease of use cPanel comes with. I would have switched to MT years ago if they had it.

The plans I am looking at include Plesk.

My friend has been using DreamHost for about 2 years now and absolutely loves them. He has 40 web sites (pretty high traffic sites) hosted on the $7.95/month service.

For me, this might be more trouble than it's worth. I take the whole annual bill to my accountant anyway, so if I have to break it up it may be more hassle than it's worth.

its really fun when trying to cancel your account from mt. i've been using flashlevel but thats only cause i've been a customer since dash hadn't even really opened it for the public and i was getting waay more than i was paying for.

I am seriously considering Liquid Web right now... it looks like it has exatly what I need at a price ($100 / month) I can definitely afford atm. They have pretty good mentions over at webhostingtalk.com too.

What's burstable RAM? It says 512mb guarenteed / 2BG burstable.
I know my GD functions sometimes spike the memory for a short time, so that might be right up my alley.

Well since you were too damn stubborn to click on the link I will tell you what it is. First off, it is a Virtual Dedicated hosting account. You have permissions to install anything on the servers that you'd like. If you want to recompile PHP with different files,go ahead, if you want to upgrade something you can as well. Second off, for $7.95 they give you 20GB Space with 1 TB transfer. For $15.95 you get 40GB Space and 1.2 TB transfer plus your space and transfer limits go up every week. If that isn't what you wanted then i'm sorry but that was the way I understood it.

i'd say it meant that any one of your services has a cap of 512mb but it will allow it to temporarily go to 2gb before it kills it

@ jasonsplace. I did check that out and I appreciate it. I am looking again. It's almost too good to be true and in my experience if it appears that way it usually is... but I am going to research them over at webhostingtalk etc... right now.

I thought the same thing too but my friend absolutely swears by them. If you want I could probably get you his contact information so that you can ask him questions about it.

This is not a dedicated/virtual dedicated host. This is a shared server plan where you will be plopped onto a directory sharing machine resources with 1000 other websites. You will not have telnet access with this, you will not have root access.

While their service may be good, according to your original request admedia, this is not what you are looking for. They have a dedicated solution, which is $99 per month.

Ahhh to hell with all of these other guys.
It's a damn jungle out there!

Looks like I will probably going to end up trying a year of dv rage or extreme at MT.

Anything else I have a feeling will end up basically at the same level I am at....
mediocre hosting at a lower price.

MT is great, we have a client hosted with them. They're expensive, but they're like the BMW of hosting. High quality, great service, impeccable uptime, great and knowledgeable phone support, and well worth the investment.
