Nope same thing... no read in this drive... but it reads it in the other computer.
This drive reads a movie DVD fine I put in.... it reads CDs all the time...
frustration. :(
sounds like a hardware issue dude. strange it can burn but can't read it.
can you locate any updateable firmware for that thing? I've updated my TDK burners both with new firmware and stopped the probs with Sony DVD+R's
haha. "Yep. Its verified!"Quote:

Would "this one" be a 98 machine? I know I had a similar problem with a CD-RW burner on a 98 machine. You can't leave the session open on the disc, or at least that solved my problem (closing the session.)
Nah, it's XPpr0n SP2.Quote:

like i said, i can read the burnt cd in a newer machine...
just updated Nero.
I don't think I can update the firmware gerbick, or don't know how... Toshiba just seems to think everything is automated in XP. I uninstalled / reinstalled the driver via XP as well.
Sounds like the lazer is burned out. Or you other discs are burned at an angle this one can't match.
same problem on a friends PC.
Found some freeware that skips bad sectors and managed to get the cd working. Can't remember my search criteria, but it was something like "read damaged cd"
Good luck!
get CD-Check
Works fur me, or is it, fur works me.

I am thinking it's a problem with Nero
Just to reiterate the symptoms
- I burn to DVD-R and this particular computer that does the burning shows a 0 bytes used / 0 bytes available unlabeled disc.
- The burned DVD-R is perfectly readable in my other pc.
- I can burn and read CD-R fine using windows XP.
- I tried 2 kinds of discs with the same results Office Max and Memorex DVD-R.
- I put in a previously burned DVD-R (not sure what I used to burn it) and it reads it.
I think I am going to try a clean uninstall reinstall of Nero and maybe try and reach their support later.
you say you burn and read CD-R fine with XP. can you burn and read CD-R with Nero? is it only DVD-R or only with Nero? Im confused.
