I know I know, myspace... meh!
I'm helping a good friend of mine with his page and while I like the fact that its heavily css driven, they make it hard to really 'design' a layout. Has anyone had any experience with customizing myspace?
What I'm looking for is a good well rounded manual that goes over the various places to put your code, how to change the layout etc.
Does myspace strip html tags? Try putting a <plaintext> tag in there, and destroy his profile :D
You're only allowed CSS and HTML. Put the HTML in the "About Me" section and the CSS is any of the other sections. If it's a really customized (lots of overlapping divs) and you put the HTML and CSS together, it'll cover up the "submit" button. Always use "safe mode."
There are lots of premade layouts out there, but it's best to do it yourself if you have the time / patience. They've taken out a lot of markup so you have to do everything a long roundabout way.
I highly recommend downloading the CSS stylesheet they use for their site so you can know which classes are already defined.

no, you can use HTML too, just no javascript. I would like to wreak some havoc with that <plaintext> though, sounds mischievous!
seems like the latest trend to use myspace for advertising purposes. ive had some clients asking for things like this:

Know what's even better? Going in there with straight CSS.

Add that to every class. The typical Myspace profile is a mess of tables, tables, divs, and more tables. Whoever did the coding for it was, and probably still is, a moron.
I've gotten that far and I'm finding what you said to be true, too damn complicated for simple tasks. Right now I'm trying to just move and size the major page elements. I'm going for a clean column site that looks like a forum.Quote:

You can put the two elements together:
table{border-width:500px; border-color:red;} (make sure you seperate the syntax with semicolons.)
They define it multiple times in the CSS stylesheet because it's for different classes, for example:
table1.table{border-width:500px; border-color:red;}
table2.table{border-width:500px; border-color:red;}
That's another thing I should point out. You can only use classes. No ids allowed.

mygen.co.uk is what i used...and then went through the code and took out their little tag to add the little "made with my gen" graphic at the top :)
