help passing vars from url

Hi there. I'm still rather new to flash and I was wondering if anyone could help. i'm making buttons for a website and I'm trying to make it just one button and calling it with

button.swf?text=whatever&link=wherever

where text is what the button displays (got that working fine) and link is where it links to. I just cannot get this to work. Any suggestions? I'm currently using:

on (release) {
getURL (link ,"_framename");
}

I also tried:

on (release) {
getURL ("http://www.site.com/" link ".php", "_framename");
}

but it's just not working :( Can anyone tell me how to pass the variable into the geturl? it works with just link, but as soon as you put a . in there, it won't load.

This would have to look like:
on (release) {
getURL ("http://www.site.com/"+ link+ ".php", "_framename");
}

assuming link is a variable
