Photo Quality in Slideshow

Hello,

newbie here...I am trying to do a slideshow with photos and here is what I have done so far:

1. Resized all of my photos to 400x400 (this is the size of the slideshow I would like to use).
2. Did everything else as normal.

3. When I launched it, the quality of the photos is not good.

Should I resize the photos to make them square, but leave them very large and let the program scale them to the 400x400?

Change Jpeg quality is File > Export Settings

Or alternatively load images dynamically...will remain at the original quality and good idea if you have a lot of pictures..
