[xpmt] Pimp my Game
Edit: I've updated the demo a bit, but I have no idea where to go with this game, I need your help. Please take a look at it and tell me what you think. THE UPDATED .FLA IS IN THE FIFTH POST.
I was messing around today trying to get my flash program to do random stuff and I found this cool little trick, it's kinda' similar to katamari in a way I guess, anyway, take a look and tell me what you think.
Tap space to jump, arrow keys to move. You can view it through the .fla in the attatched file.
MX by the way.
EDIT: should have been MX 2004
-
Neat, but when u jump, it can keep jumping in mid air... I like the gathering effect, but.... it gets very cluttered....
With a bit of sorting out tho, it could achieve some really cool and unusual effects.. i look forward to seeing the tweaked version..
-
Are you sure is MX? I couldn't see it, maybe is MX 2004 LOL
-
Whoops, sorry about that, either a typo or I wasn't thinking...
And, yeah, it is 2004.

Things added:
-toggle clutter on/off
-pause
-enemy
-more stuff to roll up
-going up thru platform won't work too well...
-
Please post it as a SWF if you want more people to play it.
-
Cool game actually.. Liked it after i turned off clutter. With it on it gets too messy. And the camera control is a bit off after a while, that needs fixing.
-
I'd play it, but i don't feel like downloading an fla
-
I'll upload an swf online pretty soon, hopefully within a day...
no promises...
-
It's very easy too get lost in that game, How am I suppose to attack the monster?
Do you need a weapon?

Wow, it's been a while. My apologies for taking so long to upload the file, alot of stuff got in my way. Stuff happens.
Anyway, please give me your feedback, I know this needs to be used in a game, just I don't know how.
-
why not rotate the boxes around the orb thingy with sin and cos
here's a source, also cleaned up your code a little
-
At last I could play
Interestin contest, there is a PS2 game where you roll a ball picking everything and the ball is getting biger every time you pick something, so the you have to clear everything, and I mean everything, when the ball is big enough you can roll over trees and houses till you clear everything on the level
They use funny and different caracters, maybe you can put a character pushing and rolling the ball trying to clear all
Maybe trying to avoid some things in the stages like characters in a town
Well, after play I have to think some ideas for the game
-
You could make the junk a weapon. When you left click all of your collected stuff sprays around the screen smashing into enemies. The game could involve sneaking around enemies and getting a good pile of junk, and then finding the best spot to unleash it all, destroying as many enemies as possible. If you get hit by an enemy when you have junk, you lose some of it, and if you get hit when you have no junk, you die.
If you really wanted to get fancy, you could make a destructive environment, so you start with a little bit of junk, but as you smash up enemies and walls, and barrels, etc., you create new junk, letting you smash up more enemies at once, and take on bigger enemies, smash open new areas, and so on.

I found the movement to be painfully slow.
-
Its not realy making fun in 2D :/ ...
-
The camera movement is too slow... speed that up, and you'll be good.
Fun game. Sort of like "Me and My Katamari" for the PSP (you might be able to get some ideas from that)

Dont you hate when that happends, 2 days after i made my bubble game, i found out there was a full version cp game almost exactly the same (Which i didnt even knew existed) but it had special effects and a bunch 3d crap and mumbojumbo, geez it hurts...
No worry, ill make a better game... Muwhahaha (Evil Laugh)

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!
I think when I'm ready to make a full fleged game out of this I'll use arawkins' idea.
But until then, do you guys think it needs a graphics overhaul?
Are they good how they are? should I introduce sprites into the mix? etc?
Let me know what you think.
As for the Katamari comments, yeah, I knew about that game and I kinda' tried to duplicate that (marginally succesfully I might add) just to see how it might work.
I'm definately going to speed up the camera, and increase trhe framerate a bit.
