World Jump Day

This is probably old, but I decided to create a new thread since its going to happen in 2 days.

What is WJD?
Some morons have calculated that if 600 000 jump at the same time, the force of all of them jumping and landing will push the earth out of its current orbit and into an orbit a few meters wider in diameter. This reduce global warming, extend the day time and do a lot of other good things (according to them).

Why it wont work.
If you have had simple high school physics you will realise that when you jump, you excert a force on the earth, pushing it away. As you land you will push on it with the same force in the same directions. But what they fail to take into concideration is that while you are in the air the earth pulls on you, and you pull on the earth. In fact the force of attraction between you and the earth while you are in the air will be exactly the same as the force of you jumping and landing. Hence the total force is zero.

Hot summer? Dude, it's blazing here. I mean... I haven't seen outdoors for more than an hour at a time.

but it's actually quite unusual to be this nice here. it is meant to get to about 37 degrees. which i think i heard the weather man say would be the hottest ever for july....

would be nice if i wasn't at work. or if at least we had aircon.....

I picked up my kids from school yesterday which is a 20 min round trip and i burnt my head, neck and face. yes i was a prat and didnt think to use any suncream :(

We have a hot summer here too! We had an incredible winter though. We haven't had as much snow in 50 or 60 years. It started snowing in December and we had more than a meter of snow until the 20th of April. Then we had spring for about 3 weeks and in may (about the 10th I think) we had great weather, and we have had great weather since then. We haven't had a single thunderstorm, but we have had enough rain to make the farmers happy. Seems like the climate is getting better.

I'll bet the overal temperatures were warmer though, causing more moisture in the air, more snow to fall.

Couple days ago, the weather guy here said this is the warmest year recorded in the US since they've been keeping records. I guess the gulf is probably getting warmer too, meaning more and stronger hurricanes shortly. Yesterday it hit 120 in south Dakota of all places.

I'll take 120* weather if you take away ALL the humidity from here in exchange. 90-100 with high humidity is terrible.

That's what it is here, High temp, high humidity. I haven't been outside in days.

Today is actually much nicer and I might actually go out and take some photos...

We have a huge storm rolling over us right now. It got so dark the streetlights came on. :)

But it didn't cool down much. Still high 80's.
