rotary game engine
I've been working on a little experiment for the last few days, sort of a different way to look at platformers.
Instead of having a levels that moves horizontaly, it rotates (ala Super Mario Galaxy )
a few things I tried to include:
-working physics (mostly failed)
-ability to travel between planets (kinda' worked)
VERY skin and bones, don't ask.
here it is: http://ian.janasnyder.com/globegame.swf
in space, use arrow keys, in atmosphere, space = jetpack, arrows = left/right
let me know what you think
btw: if anybody is willing to help me with this physics deal (nothing fancy, just so the planet and character don't intersect) PM and let me know, please.
I'm trying to vreate a working game engine where a user would only have to cvhange a few sprites, and create planets and name them to make a game, right now, I'm not willing to release the source (very, very messy)
If you think you could help me with this, let me know.

Very nice game engine, are you thinking in a story or a game line?
-
Like the idea, (never played the mario game).
How do I travel between planets then?
-
oh captain, my captain, I must say no that it looks pretty bugged to me hitTestwise and that I get stucked in the middle of it all the time. Get those hitTest more acurate.

@artlink
yeah, it's not very good with slope...in fact it plain can't handle it. There's so much I still need to work on that I just have no idea how to do at all...oh well.
@ walnoot
travel between planets by just jet-packing up until you get outside of the atmosphere, then head right to get to the next planet, I'll add a map, or arrows, or something later...
btw, the mario isn't actually out yet...
@scheletro
the story is going to be something along the lines of alien race destroys peacful race's home planet, so the rest of the game, you protect your main fleet in space, and invade and disable the alien systems-there are no earthlings in the game- eventually, you'll find a new planet and travel there, but the alien find out so they go to destroy you and the game ends with a giant battle between the forces of good and evil. Alot of story to tell here, not much space/patience.

the spaceman should be on top of the planet.
