A very basic question: why did the fill tool become so stubborn?
I only recently switched from MX to 8, and I had no problems with the older versions of Flash.
But for some reason, the bucket fill tool in Flash 8 is frustratingly stubborn.
Basically, I made a C shape with the brush tool, then covered the gap in the C with an invisible line with the line tool. Up until now, that shape I made would always fill, but now in Flash 8, it doesn't.
I've tried switching the bucket properties around, such as "fill in large gaps" to "fill no gaps", but it refuses to fill that shape. It works if I make a closed shape all of one brush color, but that's not what I want.
Does anybody know how to fix this?

EDIT: I just noticed this, but the layer I have this shape on seems to recognize every element in it with a light blue box, as opposed to the checkered pattern you'd normally find when you highlight non-symbol elements. It seems that everything I put in this layer is having this light blue box surrounding it (as if they were symbols, which they're not). What exactly is this? I've never had this happen before in older versions of Flash.

EDIT 2: Okay, I must have inadvertently hit "J". which toggles "Object Drawing", whatever that does. I guess I'll read up on that, and why it would be useful.
