Just released another (very) small game. Please check it out.

maybe a interpolation or easing method once the mouse cursor gets close to the ship because right now it gives the impression of an instant brake
Once again, I played long enough to set the highscore--twice this time. Great stuff. Keep it coming. The game, while addicting, is still missing that critical element: sound. With that, it'll be another game in the bank.
What sort of function do you use, pray-tell, to create that starry background?
Very nice game. It was very simplistic, looked good, run well and its main feature is that it's very addictive but there were some things that need cleaning up..
-Controls. Using the mouse to control the ship is fine, however you definetly need to use renders idea (puts some easing into it's movement). At the moment it feels really weird, even if your not aiming at making it as realistic as possible.
-Hit tests are not good. I think I ran into about 10 asteroids but never died (damn #11 got me :P), meaning that you need to put some more work into checking for hits. I also had this problem when trying to collect trash, which was very fustrating when I got more asteroids on the stage and wanted to quickly snatch one and then run like hell.
-Different asteroid movements. This is being picky and I dont expect you to use this idea, but I think it would be better if the asteroids floated accross the sceen in random directions and speeds, rather than simply bouncing up and down or left and right. This would make the game a lot more unpredicatble and hence, more exciting.
Keep the good games coming :thumbsup: (they seem to be coming reguarly anyway:))

It didn't seem like he was using hitTest, I thought he might have been doing a distanceToCenter check.
Yeh, sorry. I knew he was using distanceToCenter to check for hits but I wasn't explaining myslef properly.
What I meant to say is that I think you should use a different method for checking for hits between your mc's, because you would expect to earn points or die when
hitting any part of an asteroid or trash rather than just the centers.

I wouldn't even say he needs to change anything except the distance calculation. However he is calculating distance, it seems like a variable in there is set too low, allowing the sprites to overlap without any repercussion.

Anyway... I really liked this actually, it's simple and addictive, there seems to be a little forgiveness in the hit testing, but I like that since the games where you just touch a single pixel and ur a gonner are SO frustrating...so lets see how long I stay at the top of the score board hey :)

Every time I play this game again I enjoy it more and more. Im not exactly sure how original the gameplay is (I've played a few similiar survival games but they weren't exactly like this, so I'm guessing it's fairly original) but it's definatly one of the most addictive flash game I've ever played. Now that I've played the game a lot more than when I reviewed the game the first time, I would say that the game is perfect as it is (except you could add some easing to the ships movement but this is not that important).

Yeah, you just sucked one hour of my free time. Boo. :( But I love the game and I just reclaimed the highscore with a resounding 561. (After a score of 378, the game becomes INSANE.) Take that Viza.

Yeah I know. I stopped looking at the score while I played because it was becoming nerve wrecking, and just checking when I died. The last time before I even looked I knew I'd played a lot longer than normal, but I was shocked to see it that high.
P.S. A true warrior keeps his friends close, but enemies closer.
It could be a hitTest: if(_root.astroid.hitTest(_x,_y,true)){ This would have the same effect.

So i wouldn't spawn that ne Asteroids IN the game field, better let the come from out of the scene. That looks smoother and more "logic" then a "hoops a asteroids spawned in front of me WTF???!!!" ;)

I'm really glad all who played it liked it a lot. Also, I am sorry for taking away an hour lol (just imagine how much I played it when testing :p)
I do agree with the easing of the movement. it does seem kind of illogical that the ship just stops.
X-Tender that is an excellent idea of having the asteroids appear from out side and come in. I will look into that one.
I will also try and get some sound working, I can never find the right sounds to use.
Also, for the checking on Asteroids / Junk I am using the simple hitTest. However, (lol) i am using a distance calculation to spawn the junk and asteroids. if i can remember correctly it is something like 100 pixels in any direction.
Another really fun+addictive game. The graphics are nice too.
What I like about it is how precise and quick the movements of the ship feel - i'd argue against putting any easing in.
2 suggestions I'd make
-A larger buffer area around the edges where the junk can't spawn. One time I had one spawn right in the corner, and it an unneccesary extra level of difficulty that feel too arbitary.
-Some kind of time bonus for getting the junk quickly?
