Tehre are too many ways to make a motocross game
back view, side view, top view etc
For the things you describe is a side view game and you say you are not good with action script and you are trying to use phisics, real hard for beginers
Maybe you sould animate the jump
Can you give us more details or a code or some screens of the game?

i would like to make a side scrolling game, alot like this: http://www.teagames.com/games/tgmotocross2/play.php , exept not that complex. the main part i dont know how to do is making a line that the player goes on (terrain), i dont know what script to write so the player doesnt just fall through the line or something

wow
Those games are very complex, pure phisics, those are not good for begginers, of course there are too many ways to emulate a motocross game, but for this one uffff
-
well i dont plan on making anything that complex, just where do i start?

This may be a help,
http://www.cove.org/flade/
Although as it's already been said, it's really not easy, even using something like Flade to do most of the clever stuff for you.
Squize.

if you dont want any phisics you can start with the lateral scroll, or animating the motorcycle, what abot making it like "moon patrol" that all fun arcade of the 80s

motocross
A motocross game would be excellent especially an online version played in a browser. It would be good to make it simple but of quality. Of course it should have jumps, even as a side scroller it would be fun to play. You could look at other sites (link removed-Tony) to get ideas of how other games have been made. :)

Any racing engine could be adapted to a motocross game. So look around and pick the one you think would be easiest to work with ( top view probably the easiest, side view , First person or behind the bike view , or even that mode7 thing, although don't now whether that wuld work well with hills.
Since others are pimping too :) look at the second screen shot from the top here:

Something tells me that will be a motocross game soon enough.
