Tonight I was watching 1 versus 100 on NBC. While the contestant could answer questions related to some I think TV characters (piglet or pooh, I don/t know), she did not know that Hong-kong was BRITISH before it was moved to the Republic of China. I am shocked.
Where are Americans living, in outer space?
Why does some woman on a gameshow represent Americans?

umm, i didn't know that hong kong was british either. Yeah i'm american, but why should i know that? I'm no dummy and admittedly, i'm not a fan of history...but i'm also young and not kept up to speed on every detail of the past.
What i did hear the other day were audio clips of celebrities not knowing the year that 9/11 happened, but they knew the names of 'Brangelina's' children. That scares me a hell of a lot more.
What cracks me up, personally... the treachery of how the Brits obtained sovereignty over Hong Kong and signed a "treaty" that said some far off year like... "1997" way back in like... 1800 something just to get the land and lord over it and extend it's empire.
Anyway, this thread hasn't kept my attention. My american attention span is under 3 minutes... or until the next beer/pizza/SUV purchase.

I just don't get why you took her as representative of Americans. It seems like you have a stereotype of what Americans are and are kind of waiting around for examples that fit your idea to show up.

Why do you think they put those kind of people on the show? They're not going to put a 20 time jeopardy champion on so they can clean house and win all the money. They screen them first, to see if they're entertaining, and somewhat dense.
