Monitors

I'm in the market for a widescreen monitor. I have a 19" Samsung LCD (191t) that's been great, but I just want more real estate to work with.

I'm thinking a 22" LCD would be best, who makes the best for the buck out there? Saw some HP's in the stores, but I'm a.) worried that the glossy coating is going to pick up a lot of glare and b.) not thrilled with the footprint.

Who should I look at? Dell? Samsung? The Apple ones look nice but are way too pricey.

Dell's are very nice. As well as Samsung. I have the square Samsung 930B 19" and love it.

Get a 42" like GShock

i don't care how expensive or if it has won design awards, that dell is...butt ass ugly.

Viewsonic or Dell 22", you really can't go too wrong with either. The Dell SP2208WFP has even an integrated webcam... ooh.

I still don't get the point of wide-screen displays for PCs, unless you're really into watching movies or video editing; I had one for about 3 days and had to take it back. Made reading some web sites way too straining.

Would much rather have dual normal aspect ratios than a wide.

Takes up less space, keeps me from constantly dragging pallets around looking for stuff.

You know what f--ng sucks? Monitors are one of those things you really have to see to be able to judge. Without CompUSA, there's no frigging place to check them out. Best Buy and Circuit City carry the same 4, not hooked up properly, coated in dust. The only local PC shop I have only has a handful, and they're cheap ones.

Shopping online sucks.

just look at the specs, contrast ratio, brightness, response time, viewing angle, those should give you a clear idea of what the display is like, if not compare specs with ones you can checkout at a local store, then shop online for the best price monitor with the specs you want.

For me, i chose that LG monitor for the 22" size, 3000:1 contrast ratio, and the 2ms response time.

Actually, B&H is just around the corner, how's their selection?

Should be pretty good as well. There is also a place on 5th Avenue - Datavision. They have a good selection as well. Problem with Datavision and B & H is that they look for you to bargain with them. I hate that crap.
