Ok mods, I know this isn't game related, but I don't really post to other forums, and this really made my life easier.
If you're using CS3 and Vista, and you're getting AS panel slowdown, and serious problems with trace actions slowing down the test player...
Shut down flash, go straight to the flash.exe in program files, right click, go to properties, and set compatibility mode to "XP service pack 2" then restart flash. Should solve a lot of problems.

while we are still at it,- does anyone know a good slim quick AS3 capable editor?- I tried PSPad but it doesn´t come with any Actionscript highlighting just Javascript (as the most close pick).
Thanks for the tip, I did notice how slow tracing stuff had become (I do not use areo though, so I hope it will make a difference).
renderhjs : did you try FlashDevelop? it's not a slim editor, but pretty quick, and has good syntax highlighting and code completion, F4 to go to a method, variable or class definition, etc. I like it a lot better than the eclipse based editors that I tried.

Ive tried Notepad ++ and the results are good, although I eventually go back to cs3, since you cant compile from notepad.Quote:

I think you cant beat Eclipse + as3 plugin for that, but is tricky to work with CS3 and Eclipse unless you dont use CS3 at all.
I don't like notepad++ much. I think the interface is ugly, and it's language capabilities are limited, ie code completion, goto resource, etc seem to be absent from what I've seen. It just highlights the code.
Eclipse is cool, because you can have so many different editors in it, but most editors I've used (aptana, radrails, phpeclipse, etc) all have too many shortcomings. Plus, it's a pretty bloated application, takes too lon to load, etc. Haven't done much in Flex though, just not a huge Eclipse fan.
I write all my code in FlashDevelop, and do the graphics stuff and compilation in CS3. Works pretty well, long compilation times notwithstanding. I do have some problems with the quick search (firefox-like) feature in FlashDevelop lately, I hope they sort this out quickly, because it's a nice thing to have in an editor.
I used flex before for my AS3 stuff- but it´s not the real deal for me now. I like for now working close with CS3 (movieClips, visual feedback,...). Within CS3 much of the new AS3 stuff makes so much more sense- I missed alot basics back then and it was like impossible to actually use MovieClips from flash.
Anyway FlashDevelop seems to be pretty nice- it works instantly without forcing to put up Projects (like Flex does)- just what I need to improve CS3.
there isn't a single editor out there that works the way I like it to.
the closest is the built-in editor, but only because A: It's built in. and B: it has autoformat (even though the autoformat isn't customisable)
I'm seriously considering writing my own.
i'm with you lesli, while your at it, can you add a AS3 MTASC compiler, that would be tops.
Dude, I have such bad coding habits, nobody else would be able to use it.
I don't think mtasc is going to be supported for as3, haven't Adobe sorted out the compile-time problem for as3 then?
