If you're not English/American, how often have you used this symbol:

On the Norwegian keyboard, on the same key as 4, there is a strange little symbol that nobody use. I Googled around a bit, and apparently it is called Currency Sign. It seems to be around from when ASCII was standardized in Europe, and they decided it was important enough to add to the collection. Except it's never actually used for anything.

So, does anyone know why it was added or where you can use it?

here in teh states we have a $ which is also a currency sign, possibly they change them based one what differnt cultures use/used

only as a strange bullet for list items.

since noways currancy is the krone smbolized by kr there is no need for a special character symbol thus the generic currency symbol.

I have seen it used, but only in banking documents - I've never personally used it.

Isn't that just a fancy bullet point for sailboat-themed documents?

But then why is it on my keyboard when I, and nobody else, ever use it? I want another symbol there, like a Euro (€) or something.

I thought about basing a programming language around it, but then realized than only people with a nonstandard keyboard would be able to use it.

Perhaps you accidentally bought a keyboard designed to be used on yachts and other sea vessels?

its on your keyboard because norway doesnt have a currency sign, thus the generic sign you have.

Grab a keyboard from england and you will get the pound sign. One form america for the dollar sign, and ill assume japan has the yen sign.

then remap your keys to show the symbol of choice.

Looks like a quick launch key for a tic-tac-toe game.

Silver, look at the keyboard image in the first post. The keyboard has the English (£), American ($) and European (€) currency sign. Now compare it to the other keyboards on that page. Why does the Italian's, Spanish and British(!) need the $ sign instead of the ¤ sign? It's not like they use it more than we do.
