The latest slew of examples from Alternativa3D aren't too shabby!
By far the one I like the most is their Painting Apartments example:

I liked how fast the texture and live painting worked.
If Flash is going to continue moving forward in this realm, Adobe really needs to reinstate mouse cursor tracking outside of the swf window.

I don't know what you are comparing it to, but "not too shabby" isn't quite how I would describe it. I will also point out that my resizing/compression of the flash screenshot hides most of the artifacts such as the gaps between the 20 or so polygons they have on screen at a time.
Also, the shockwave screenshot is of a complete game and it also has some nice particles, explosions and other effects that I didn't catch.

to 691175002: well, of course i know how the other technologies look and feel compared to flash, i´m one of those who most often speaks against most flash 3d stuff and pushes most for adobe making PROPPER progress instead of just hyping up pseudo progress. I also play around with XNA and unity3D in between so yeah,i have an idea of what can be done with em.
Sure, even the latest alternativa demos, just like any other flash realtime 3d demo is craptacular on the techside compared to what can be done in unity3D on the web or XNA in standalone/Xbox 360 deploy.
But at least these latest demos in alternativa feel nice by themselves to me, they felt way less like a shoddy "totally wants to be realistic but of course has no chance at all to be in flash ad it shows heavily, it also has no other use besides being a static wannabe realistic thing". Yeah, the paintable house is made up of super low poly stuff and again the balkony with the pseudo realistic look outwards is its biggest letdown in my eyes but it has a nice idea (painting on the walls) executed in a fun way in my eyes, so for what it does its not all bad in my eyes, so a good achievment for flash.
Likewise the other demos achieve a pretty ok look in my eyes not just regarding the super low polycount they had to play with.
I can also have a look at these demos and enjoy em even though knowing thechnically they could be done in much nicer way in unity3D, that wasn´t the case for me with some of the other alternativa/pv3D etc demos where i just wondered what was the point at all in trying to do a few "realistic" sky scrapers in an open field with no propper interaction all looking craptacular (in the case of that demo even a series of rendered out in high quality images would have made more sense than using flash realtime 3D).

hm, yeah,well,sorry, but i think of your model/sophie3D the same which i thought about some of the older alternativa demos. Its just a model viewer and even at that it can´t even handle the model in same look when interacting with it, so what´s the point of that model viewer then?
It also can´t apply any sort of nice shaders or other things 3 year old graphic cards can handle easily so yeah,its a shoddy, only if at all nice for flash limitations thing.
A flash enthusiast would say: wow, nice polycount they can handle for flash, everyone else informed about the technologies one can choose among would say: hey, why should i choose flash for a high poly model previewer, it can´t even handle just one high poly model smoothly while interacting with it.
Also on what you said in your last comment: have a look at some more director and unity3d content mate, there´s lots of games, tech demos etc out there with quite interactive environments, there´s more than enough to proove it can handle tons more than flash, what is then actually used by developers is their own choice, not due to heavy restrictions of the tech anywhere close to the degree flash has.
Its really no good idea comparing flash with those and saying things like its similar, because flash is really more than 10 years behind regarding what can be done with it in this field.
If a demo in flash is nice, artistic, fun, creative etc by itself, ok,cool; if it yells out loud: you should have chosen the propper technology for this, then,well,sad. Of course every viewer can decide by himself, this is just my view on it :)
Obviously I would compare it to other Flash works. What's the point of comparing it with more powerful technologies when it obviously can't win?Quote:

I think a comparison makes sense and as a developer is required, it would be crazy to not compare among possible options and blindly choose (maybe) the worst option.
Regarding the comparison in this case, well, i think i made my stance clear that i like artistic or fun/abstract/creative uses of flash 3D where the technical execution/limitations get less important, i dislike things that are only nice regarding technical implementation/limitations in flash,because those suck compared to things possible in other technologies.
Not really. Like I said, as a Flash developer I would compare it with other FLASH works (in this case, 3D engines/frameworks). I don't care about the other technologies because I don't expect my users to ever have those technologies installed.Quote:

WHAT?! What the heck does mouse XY coordinate tracking have to do with phishing? Right now, when the mouse moves outside the SWF window, the XY stops updating and it makes it really difficult to implement some types of mouse input (like for a flight sim or other).Quote:

i only had negative experiences with virtools but your screenshot looks really nice so i thought i´d give it a try. I can´t say anything about your demo video or game because i couldn´t get it running, sorry to say but that plugin yells epic fail to me.
First of all the name, 3DVia? What were they thinking?
Then more important (and sadening) the functionality i experienced:
I go to the page, want to view the live demo, so i press the button.
I don´t have the plugin, what i´d expect would be an auto install or popup asking for an auto install or new window or redirect to an auto install.
What happens instead is a graphic appears saying download plugin.
Ok, i press the button, what i´d expect to happen ideally would be a silent auto install starting and i can experience the content right away without having to actively download an installer, execute the installer manually, close and relaunch the browser etc.
What happens is i have to download an installer file,once that´s downloaded i have to trigger it being executed,then it isn´t even done with that, it was actually just a donwload for a file that is itself a downloader for something much bigger, the process is already taking way longer than for any other propper plugin.ok, anyway, the downloader has finished downloading,now its executing.
Once its done i have to reload the browser page.
I do that, an error message pops up. Its a basic alert box with headline "ERROR" and the text in it is xvidcore.dll not found.
No link with possible solution or support offfer,nothing.
I then try to go to another page in the browser and the browser crashes.
I had tried this whole thing in firefox so now i open the page in IE and there i get the same error message.
man, i want to look at this now, sorry,but the plugin makes no good impression at all.

Pitty that virtools game dont work,but its good that at least they are trying and that there are even more options for those who want to make a decent 3d
And i cant see where those flash examples are any better than any old one flah made.
