Any DirecTV users?

I've had DirecTV for a bit over a year now, because my landlord and I split the bill. I can't say I'm convinced about the picture quality, but it's the only service I've had with my Aquos.

My 360 looks great on my set, DVD's seem ok but I can only view them at 480p.

But the HD stations look like they have a lot of artifacts and noise compared to what I see on other people's sets, and non-HD channels look undersaturated and look really compressed. Is it my TV, or does Direct's broadcast quality just suck?

How is it connected? Component, HDMI?

Honestly, I didn't find DirectTV's - nor cable to be honest - via HDMI from the box to be "that" great.

HDMI. I guess the signal is so good all the image flaws come through perfectly.

Are you sure you're not splitting the signal too much? The line might need to be amplified to boost the signal to the decoder box. If you are seeing artifacts on the HD stations, there is definitely something wrong. I've done the component vs. HDMI test myself (Time Warner and Comcast cable) and not seen a difference. The connection to your set is probably not the issue...I'd look at the other side - signal to the decoder box.

cable with component (5 plugs) and things look great at 480 and 1080.

I got rid of DirectTv because a tree grew in the way and the signal broke up and got lots and lots of artifacts banding etc. I would guess you are probably having a signal issue. Could be the wiring.. could be bird**** on your dish.

It almost certainly is birdsh*t.

If it isnt worth the money your paying..go to Dish. ;) (while it lasts) at least it will be cheaper on your pockets,.. for the time being.
