Does HD MP4 Use Less Resources in Flash Player?

I have a custom flash player and am looking to offer a secondary HD option that allows for videos close to 1400Kbps. I can either stream FLV format or MP4, and was wondering if there was any advantage to going with MP4.

Does MP4 require less resources than FLV in an embeddable player created with Flash 9?

Or does it make no difference?

probably more, given that you'll be working with a higher bitrate. Your processor usage will spike - make sure users running the HD option are aware of the overheads.

Ok, but if I had an FLV and an MP4 at the exact same size and bitrate, which one would require more resources from the computer when played through an embedded flash player?

to be honest I don't know. I do know that flash player 9 makes use of hardware acceleration to play back HD MP4 files. If you have no hardware to accelerate, you might experience slowdown.

The only way to find out is to test! run a performance monitor and compare the two.

again, it's HD so you might find that your system performs differently to others.
