computer monitor issue
I've am having an odd problem with my monitor, which is a 10 year old Sony CRT. I am using windows xp (5 year old dell) with the standard windows xp theme (blue for window pane colors) and lately the colors on the screen will suddenly change. After the change, the window pane colors are become purple, the start button becomes red (was green), and everything seems a bit dim.
Sometimes I can reset the display by choosing a new theme, but not always. (while typing this thread the display reset itself on its own)
Is this more likely a hardware issue such as monitor or graphics card, or is there an OS problem?
Thanks for any suggestions.

a crt after 10 years can expect some color issues.
have you added or changed any software recently before it started happening? if no then its a hardware issue.

Thanks for the post.
I think my most recent software install was Aptana studio. This is a coding tool and has no graphic functions. Is this likely to cause this behavior?
I was a little concerned that it might be a malicious software, but I havent installed any freeware/shareware in a long time. Are there any known windows virus/spyware that would cause this behavior?

doubtful. do you have another screen you can setup to see if it continues to happen?

unfortunately, no. I will probably be buying a new computer system this year anyway, so hopefully things will hold up until I am ready to buy. Thanks for your help.

Maybe its being caused by something magnetic kept near your monitor. Try degaussing it.

this is an odd idea, but the next time it happens take a screen shot and then post it on flashkit.
If its the monitor the screen shot should still show up how its supposed to look. if its software then the screenshot should show up with the discoloration.
(yes it is what house M.D. would do.)

BNC connectors? Tighten all cables.
House would expose his religion as false, wait until a toe fell off and draw a connection to a rare condition contracted from that week in Zimbabwe at the last minute.

but before all of that he would assume its a problem with the brain. give em an eye test. if they fail without squinting it means the brain thinks it was right which means its a brain problem(discolored screen software issue) if it squints that means there is a problem with the eye (monitor) p.s. breasts breasts cuddy has breasts.
