:confused: Rights = irrevocable entitlement / Privileges = rights revocable if the terms they were agreed under are disregarded.
What else is there to discuss? If why should there be two types, that's a simple one: rights guarantee at least a minimum standard is set for everyone and privileges reward individuals who uphold those standards for themselves and everyone else.
I admit though, "rights" is sort of a misnomer in some cases. For example, you have the "right" to bear arms, but you also have the "right" to a fair trial. If you misuse those arms, you lose your "right" to bear them, but you're still have the "right" to a fair trial regardless of your actions of said misuse.
a right is something you are born with that must be taken away from you.
a privilege is something you are born without that must be given to you.
But who is to say what your rights are? Aren't those just privileges we all agreed on that everyone should have?

Lets take driving for example. You have a right to buy a car and drive it. It is a privilege to drive that car on a public road though as the road belongs to society and is shared by the people. You actions on that road effect other individual in society.

you could also look at it this way. A right is anything you are willing to kill and die for. A privilege is something you'll whine about being taken away.
It really is a matter of perspective and philosophy, with your beliefs indicating your balance between collectivism and libertarianism.
Rights and Privledges are essentially the same thing. the only difference is the level of authority thats required to get it taken away.
Watching tv is a privledge: your moms can say, now now wannabe, if your going to complain about being stuck in vermont, no more tv for you.
Being able to have a fire arm is a right: The police and government can take it away if you show yourself to be incapable of handling that Right responsibly.

Driving is a privilege, not a right.
Unless you're in NJ, where it's an expense beyond all belief, between insurance, and an annual penalty you have to pay on every ticket you've gotten in the past 3 years. Honestly, I paid a $220 ticket, and have to pay an additional annual $250 fee just for having points on my license.

Heh... **** NJ. But as far as rights/privilege goes, I'd rather follow the letter of the law. What's detailed in a law is a right. The rest... privilege.
Rights are something you should get but never get.
Privileges is something you enjoy, because you have them.
