Image character recognition.. along shot maybe.

Hi,
I think this might be along shot but thought I would put it out their anyway!

I'm developing the front end/interface in flash for some software. The back end is done in visual basic.

I wondered if it was at all possible for a user to draw a letter on screen in flash and then for flash to send this as bitmap data to a third party bit of software that would when analyse the data and try and figure out what letter the use was trying to draw.

Any ideas???
