Crazy Live
Many years ago I got ableton Live LE packaged with my external soundcard.
I hated it back then. It drained my resources something fierce and it was the only program I ever had that crashed XP (crazy I agree)
Live has taken hold of the daw industry. It's putting fruityloops in the dust. So I checked my ableton account got the free update.
The first time it failed to download something went funky. The second time Abelton decided to reboot the server. The third It took 45 minutes to download Live 8 (665MB) It took over an hour to install the dang thing. An hour on a AND phenom X4 dual quad core with 16 gigs of ram. 90 percent of the files are only usable in demo mode. I'll have to pay for the full version to activate them. WTF why load them up and make them part of the install if I can't use em? I'm left with the guessing game of figuring out which loops and vsti's I can use each time I turn it on.
Midi is a mystery on this thing. Sometimes I can send a midi signal to a virtual instrument most times I can't. When I can it wont accept my continuous control sends. Other times it wants to use the midi notes I send to control something else without rhyme or reason. I hit a note and the midi mapper flies open, then another and I cant disengage the play function. stumble on a third and somehow my drum track side chains and now a piano is playing what the drums should. Would someone please tell Gerbick's ex gf to get out of my machine. I've tried she doesn't listen to me.
