So a few years ago, I moved out to the Bay Area from NYC. Earthquake and other natural disaster fears exist, but are generally dismissed and shrugged off by everyone. Everyplace I've lived out here has been standing for many many years (our first home in Sausalito was built in 1894.) We bought a house 2 years back on top of a fairly large hill which is embedded into bedrock. Living anywhere in the so-called ring of fire should force you to think about your living situation. Most seem to view it as 'oh well - it wont happen in my lifetime' but that is simply not the case. These coastal cove villages that don't have appropriate evacuation plans are simply acting irresponsibly.
I feel for all of those who've lost possessions and loved ones, but, as they say, you mess with the bull, you get the horns.
im just happy i got out of facebook before this happened so i dont see all the ****tards talking about karma for pearl harbor. so many stupid people.
I have been watching TV reports in disbelief for the last 2 days. It is a major catastrophe. Deaths in the tens of thousands, whole towns being wiped clean, and three nuclear power stations getting close to 3 mile island status.
@silverx2 - RE:...they thought the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki weren't enough karma?? dullards.Quote:
all the ****tards talking about karma for pearl harbor
and sadly news coverage will end in a few days as soon as charlie sheen does something else stupid.
You were so right.
I am really surprised that there is not more discussion on the outcomes of this disaster. Over 11,000 dead and 15,000 missing.
At the moment highly radioactive water is leaking into the Pacific ocean, and no-one knows how it will impact on fisheries and sea-life.
What seems to be the worst of nuclear accidents is largely ignored by media a couple of weeks after it happened.
I wonder whether people will enjoy eating 3-eyed, two-assed fish.

Wait - there was a Tsunami in Japan?
Shhhh... its not good for the economy to talk about long term problems.
whats the plural of tsunami?
tsunamäe
It's not "sh*t storm" ?
Was in Tokyo late last month, it's amazing that virtually everything in Tokyo is intact (obviously well designed and a fair distance from the epicenter), but I didn't really understand their power situation until talking to some of the residents.
Sitting in a glass office building full of a couple hundred computers on a 80 degree day is miserable. Doing it in June and July when it's 90 and humid is going to be unbearable. I don't see how they're going to work through the summer months, that economy is going to have to take a pretty big hit as people stay home for months on end.
(And don't even get me started on what it's like in the trains. Oh god, the trains.)
