zbailey, as has been noted here before, being a moderator is not determined by how many posts you make but how many people you help and the quality of help that you give them. If you're upset about not being a moderator (you post enough about it, so I think I may be right on this one) take a look at the posts that you've made. Have they been quality posts? Have you helped many people? If you've helped people, don't worry about not being a moderator. Be happy with the fact that you have helped. After all, that's what we're here for!
I dont think we should have post counts its causes too many sill threads and lots of upset people. I dont care ho wmany posts anyone has its there knowledge!!and hanging around in the coffee-lounge aint gonna get you a moderator position(not aimed at you zbailey i know you help alot of people)alot of the pople here who have high post counts are accumulated through the coffee-lounge now i can honestly say that atleast 87% of my posts are in the actual help forums the rest are team news, site check and the coff-lounge. now can we put a stop to this competing with post counts stuff please!!
Thanks!! Regards FlashGuru
p.s sorry zbailey i knwo you said no moderators it just annoys me to see so many threads and posts about how many posts people have made?!?!?
Zach, your best bet would be to hang out in the General Help or Design Forum. Just a suggestion. Steve
I just wanted to be a bad boy and post hahahahahaha :)
I think that eliminating the post ount is a pretty good idea. At first that was all I was going for, it gives people an unrealistic view of Flashkit reality. Steve
Nah, post counts for the most part let people know whos been around and who knows what. I think a good Idea would be to not have them count if you are in the lounge etc. Make them only count in the areas that have real content. Or when you reach 2500 it just ends. somthing along those lines. Regards, Bill
Thats an even better idea. Or maybe a little bar on the side of our name as to what raking we are, like Flashkguru would be #3 because he has less post than the pope, pope would be 2, and Mark would always be #1. Kindof like best of the class sort of thing. Steve Starr
Dont know about the 2500 idea i just think that we should make sure that the date that people registered is emphasised more than the post count or remove the post count all together!!!
Either way it will stop the silly threads and the competition also the coff-lounge idea was good pope i think mark should give that some thought!!
Anwaysy well still have the ranks, new member, member, senior member, executive member,fk team and so on...
maybe they should add more ranks and get rid of the post count!! what do you guy's think??
that would cause the same type of competition though stevestarr,we would have people posting threads well im now ranked no. 17 in the whole of flashkit and so on!!!Still a good thought may reduce the problems a little!!
What about a combination of No posts count in the Lougne and the Nuber system. Steve
Sorry to cause the comotion, It's funny all but one of the posters was a moderator. :) I think that posting shows how much you are around the boards, you can actually learn a lot in the coffee lounge and i think a lot of people with a high post count help people too. Having just the date of becoming a member is a bad idea, there are probably a few people who registered in FEB that have only made 1 or 2 posts. Again I am sorry, I kinda like racking up my post count, i do post a lot in the coffee lounge but you can post only so much before you run out of threads or don't make sense so this motvates me to help people! :)
That would be alot better!!!Ill ask Mark and he'll probably say "no its not worth it",but ill give it a go!!!
By the way in response to Nadine I am not upset about not being a moderator. Sure it would be awesome to become one but it isn't something that keeps me from sleeping. Hell, i've only been a member for 3 1/2 weeks!
Guru, are you saying that my idea is good? If you are dont forget to mention me! :) Steve
I ask you the question then... whats so good about being a moderator?
And why is it such a sought after prize? I am curious as I get at least 5 emails a day from people asking about becoming one! Its a lot more work!
I choose moderators carefully, there needs to be a balance of senior members who are well respected and liked (like you zbailey) and moderators that I choose. The moderators that are chosen so far have been excellent, and the numbers will grow over time, we are just full at the minute almost!
Mark, I think that members seek after moderationship, because it feels kidof like a promotion, and it also feels as thought the Flash Community respects you enough to feel that you can help others. It's a good feeling. Seeking of all those email about being a moderator did you get mine? :):) Steve Starr, aka FlashkitServant
True enough, but its not really a promotion, otherwise I would end up with a board full of moderators :)
in my opinion there are to many moderators.
there are a few names up that don't even help.
There are some moderators that have not posted a message in 5 months.
I think that most people want to be a moderator because
they seek respect and attention.
Now you may ask "so how did you get to be a moderator?"
I was asked by Mark.
I did not ask him he asked me.
So if FlashKit thinks you got what it takes they will ask you.:)
Thats probably the best answer yet :)
on some boards i've participated in...if your not a moderator, people don't take your advice seriously...you can give the best advice in the world, but they jus won't listen because your not a moderator...
I'm not a moderator and I don't have 600 post, but this is an interesting topic and I just wanted to make sure that I got email notification about it. Heh, heh...
those people are just ignorant! Although I am not a moderator it brings me great pride to know that I have helped so many people in completing flash related tasks. I love helping people because I rmember what it was like for me to learn flash and awesome it would have been if I had flashkit when I was a beginner! :)
I think Jydnas has some good points. I see a lot of questions in general help and not a moderator in sight, but i'm sure they have jobs to do. However, what's really a shame is the other people that can help are in the coffee lounge
squabbling about their post status.
I'll take help from anyone that has something to teach. You are all very skilled
people.
In my opinion, Mark could give you the name 'Moderator' tomorrow, and it would mean nothing to any of the boards unless you are here to help.
If you want it, earn it. We have no time for egos.
Buddah you are right we all have jobs(i think), when im not out with mates or whatever im on flashkit trying to help others, now for that i would care for some respect but not attention, moderator status gives you that respect(dont know why)moderator or not moderator i will still go on helping people regardless because that is what i like to do( i had to learn one day). the general help forum is manned by two moderators( me and the pope) poep does agreat job an di stopped posting in there as much as i should od but that will change!!Now i am not squabbling here i am trying to eliminate a problem which will allow me and the other moderators more time on the help boards and not in here!!Post counts come up alot and i personally think they should og. But anyway i come to the coff-lounge to chill out a little, its a place for me to read whats happening in the flash world and post my views on things aswell as resting my brain form set variable this and set variable that....
Jydnas made some great points too!!!
Thanks Regards FlashGuru
Looks like you were pissed while typing that flash guru :)
Flash Guru, That's cool man. Just in case you misunderstood my post. It was directed more to the wanna be moderators concerned with post values, not script values.
You have more than earned respect on the boards as others have.
Anyway, what the hell are you doing now? I am from England and i know
what time it is there.
I became a moderator because I heard there was Free Beer!!! hahahahaha
No, I have been here since the boards started. That's the only reason my numbers are so high. In fact I use to ask if it was ok for me to post because I was worried that I would hurt the community by posting so much. Just ask Mark. I think its awesome that people are helping one another now and I don't have to post as much. I can now do what a moderator is here to do and that is, Make sure answers are right and give the odd answer here and there that people don't know. I am here for the long hull, numbers are a bunch of junk, its nice to see where you are and how far you've come but if the numbers are your life, I think you need to get a new life. Like I said in my talk at FF2000, Its all about the people and being part of something bigger than yourself. This is my passion and you can't help but to do that which you love. High posting numbers will not bring esteem or notoriety, you may be the envy of some one else who wants to have high numbers, but the proof is how many emails do you get a day asking for help, do people look for you on the boards because they can trust your answers. Do the rest of the community sites have respect for you because you help those around you. That's what the real test is. So All I have to say is if you want to pass me in numbers go for it, I hope you do. My posts have been from the beginning about helping people. I hope yours are also. Regards, Bill
Does anybody else find it ironic that this threads title is no moderators, yet this seems to have become a gathering place for them. I just thought it was kinda funny. :)
cheeky :p
What can I say!!!!!!!
I'm a Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad Booooooooy!!!!!!!! hahahahaha :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
Be confident in who you are and titles become less meaningful.
Thats Right
A confident person dosent subcumb to peer pressure , chase after a title,(or look like he`s desperate for one)
If you dont expect it you wont be dissapointed...
Being a Moderator in this or any other site may give you a bit of recognition and recognition is good...but dont become obsessed with it...it only turns people off..:)
tONY
.....I was actually born a Moderator.
Post counts are needed as an incentive for people to post or otherwise people wont' bother and the community dies.
Sad but true.
-Brian
My feelings exactly...quite frankly, I would prefer not to have the title, regardless of number of posts...I sometimes feel like I have to help, and that being a FK Team status symbol it implies that I'm a real expert at flash, which I'm not. Can't I just have a title like...umm... "Sir Postsalot"? :DQuote:
