I know we have our fair share of gamers here, and would like to hear some opinions.
Thats rediculous. It's the parents job to teach kids whats right and what is wrong. Regardless of the society we live in and the things around us, morals and brains can be applied. I say kill them all so they can no longer reproduce. Parents need to stop relying on tv to raise their kids.
I blame the parents. that game is a Mature - read: 18+ - game... and they had it.
So the parent are to blame, but they wouldnt have turned out the way they did if THEY had better parenting. The blame game is a vicious cycle and it never works out. People have gotta start taking responsibility for their own action but with soiciety how it is at the moment its far to easy to blame the media, bad parenting, or canada. ;)
Hi everybody, when I was younger I played Mario. But I never really jumped on anyone's head trying to make them dissapear. You cant ideas from ANYTHING. Some may be inspired to blow up a building from playing Tetris, gta is just a loose game let's you do what you want to do. If they start limiting what we can do in the virtual world, I think we'll be taking a big step back.

there is no vicious cycle. either you take interest into your kids activities, or you let the Playstation 2 and music television be your child's guide.
as much as my parents were then considered "nosy"... I appreciate them doing what it took to make sure me or my two older sisters knew better than this crap.
blame game indeed. the dumb kid can't take the blame for doing something bad, neither can the parents. I vote to remove all of the warning stickers from hereon.
I think that things like this are going to become more common, with kids of younger and younger ages demanding that their parents buy them the latest title, even it does have an 18+ sticker. Hey, parents are only human, and if it'll give 'em a couple of hours peace, maybe not too much thought goes into the 'what if...' part of the equation. Unfortunatley, I'm sure their regrets and those of the kids aren't much comfort for the family of the dead driver.
Shocking these occurrences will remain, but with over exposure and minimal guidance, you don't need a fortune teller to figure the consequnces.
And that they blame the game manufacturers etc? Ha, we'll see how far that gets. Could you say that if this succeeds, every drunk driver could sue the brewer/distiller of the intoxicants that they imbibed?

Gerbick, you and your sisters are now probably respectable members of your communities, and this is quite possibly due to good parenting, but why were your parent good at raising you? Surely your grandparents would have something to do with that? And the dumb kids did take responsibily, they plead guilty unless im mistaken. If parent are to blame then they could just blame their parent, if it is the media than why do only an absolutely minute amount of people that play video games become violent? There is no clear answer and there most likely wont be for many, many years to come.

naw, my grandmother was terrible. I honestly didn't know she was my grandmother because I never addressed her as that. still don't. my grandfather on one side, I didn't meet until I was thirteen. that's about the same time as my mother met him for the first time.
it's not the parents... anybody can stop a vicious cycle as quickly as they start one. it's all about what kind of decisions you make as an adult towards your kid's upbringing.
the kid's parents are just lazy pieces of crap that happened to have enough money to buy them a television, playstation 2, electricity, and that game, but not enough time to see what their kids were doing.

Hey, I think that there are many, many parents who simply do not know that video games are as violent as they are. They live in oblivion to the mass murders committed daily in their children's bedrooms, having been fed the stereotypical diet of Mario and Sonic. They don't offer more guidance because who needs guidance playing those types of games.
And then they have to find out what their kids really are viewing and I'm sure that it's all quite a shock.

Im tired of all these people blaming video games and music for violence. Millions of people play the same game and listen to the same music and dont go off Killing people on a highway or blasting up a school with a 22.
Theres always going to be a few bad apples outa the whole bunch so why focus our efforts on video games.
If parents dont want there kids emulating GTA then why not try teaching them something called MORRALS it helps alot a person with a good structure of morals is less likely to do crap like this. Even the gangbangers in Oakland arnt so stupid to go emulating a damn game.
Also the game isnt sold to anyone under the age of 18...
so if people dont want there kids touching the game to often DONT BUY IT FOR THEM.... And if your kid is smart enough to get someone else buy it for them then they should be smart enough not to shoot a cop in the Gonads or jump over the river off a ramp rideing a motorcycle because he did it in the game.
People should stop blaming the entertainment and start taking responsiblity for there own damn actions and maybee people in the future will relize its a bad idea to shoot a poor guy on his way back from a vacation. Maybee they will learn some morals and responsiblity and have a real life not a fantasy one.
Maybe the label is there to satisfy the law, not to have the parent read it. I think there's many a person who will confess to not reading the small print etc, if only because they don't notice it's even there, after years of practiced selective ignorance.Quote:

I started playing violent video games in the 3rd grade. now im in the 9th. If i get in trouble for something i take it as my responcibility not some video game'ss, or movie's, or song's or tv show's. Every one says that whats wronge with kids today is video games and music. That has nothing to do with it. If a kid gets in trouble its becuase of their own stupid actions. It wasnt some video game character out there getting arested it was the kid!
the parents and kids should know that that little M on the box is not going to protect them. the parents will say "well i didnt know it will corupt my kid" and the kids will say "my mom bought it for me and it corupted me" the parents should know if there kids should buy the games, its not the game makers fault. they didnt know that some parent was going to buy the game with the little M on it for there kid. the game makers made the game for adults and mature people! HENCE THE REASON IT WAS RATED MATURE!

Since I was about...i dunno 10 lets say...I have really been in to them and have a larg collection. Obiously I dont buy my own games(Im broke)...my parents do. I actually tell my parents its a good idea to read the lable. Regardless of the rating it has been given my parents will usually buy it for me. So if you ask me its not the video game or the video gaming industry thats to blame. And it may not even be the parents fault. But it is the person(s) involved in the crime that need to take the blame.
Exactly. If a parent is dumb enough to buy a game for their kid with a M rating then its thier fault. Aspessially if they dont find thier kid the least bit mature for thier age. Some things that may INVOLVE video games are not always CAUSED by them. for example... If a parent buts a 5 yr old a M rated shoot 'um up game its not the game creators fault if the child turn out violent. Its the parents fault.

Its deeper than that. The child gets neglected by the parent, and subliminally the music/games becomes an escape from reality. This, in turn, perverses the child's mind, and the escape becomes part of the child's reality and this in turn leads to the media being considered acceptable behavior.
but how is a game producer going to stop this, why is Rockstar north going to get in trouble for a bunch of kids that did what they saw. Rockstar's only way of preventing it is by that little M that no parents seem to notice. They cant have some guy that works there stand in the store and yell at a kid that picks up the game! If anyone should get in trouble it should be the stores that sell the game or the parents that were ignorant enough to buy the game.
I still say blame the parents. It's their job to set the precedence of what's wrong, right, acceptable, and what not. kids are going to make mistakes, no doubt. but that's negligence on the parents part.
if a kid has no life except for the one they live in a video game, such as GTA, then thats what they will want to be like...they will modle thier life after that instead of "normal" things that their parents should have been teaching/showing them.

if the kid has nothing but a video game as a role model, then that means the parents aren't role models.
parents just look at the worst thing that they can say caused it, why cause they know they are wronge, like if the worst thing is a can of soda they will blame that, but the worst thing now and days are video games, so they just point there fingures

To me the whole point to a video game is that it is based on some thing that you would never be able to do in realy life.
Such as fantasy games or games like GTA. Those are things that (Generally) dont happen in real life, or shouldnt happen. in a fantasy game people can fly and do magic which doesnt actually happen in the "real" world. So when a kid tries to imitate one of the DOOM games and walks around with a big gun shooting people its becuase something in the kids head isnt right. Whether it be becuase of there home life or whatever...its not the games fault. the game is there to be fun and entertaining without actually hurting someone or trying to fly of a building and dodge bullits
the parents think that at one time there kid was an angel, maybe that was before they only talked to there kids 5 minutes, and that was when they were fighting over what to watch on t.v. They wernt there to be a role model for the kid.
yeah, video games are like taht, they can make a kid superman, or they can make a kid have the fastest car, or they can make a kid a murderer, BUT THAT IS ALL SUPPOSED TO BE ONLY ON THE T.V.! kids are stupid and try it, so A. they end up dead or B. They end up making people dead
this is the most tired topic in the world and it is one that can be answered with common sense. kids should be taught basic right and wrong from their parents. if a kid is raised in a good environment with proper care then the problem of videogames influencing them is present. of course we always have the psychos out there that will do it anyway but then if you take away videogames they will get their ideas from somewhere else. take away all media and freedom of expression will take a hit plus they will still get their ideas from somewhere else. bad influences will always be present in our society no matter what steps are taken. so eliminating videogames will only destroy an art form and censoring them will only please angry soccer moms looking for somewhere to blame their bad parenting on

Pokemon is pets battleing, does that teach me to train my dog to attack other ones, Grand turismo, does that teach me to try to race my parents car. NO! and if that stuff does happen to kids they dont think of that. They only think of the worst most contriversal game, Grand Theft auto. The parents think of them selfs. they think there kids are angels that could only have been killers if they played video games. There friends couldnt have mad the kid evil, movies definatly couldnt, the news cant eather, IT MUST BE THOSE DARN VIDEO GAMES!!! my parents would just blame my own idiotousy if i chose to kill someone, they wouldnt point there fingure at the games
