800*400.
rotation fine.
150kb and under.
keep return time under a week if possible.
one or two battlers would be dandy.

Is there a member on FK with the username you! or is this an open invitation? If it's an invite, I'd like to accept. Only because... well I've been itching and am currently listening to Radiohead, incidentally.
nah buddy, you're up! i wouldn't mind doing like 4 rounds... we could even do a radiohead battle if you wanted. :yikes:
Hey sorry for the late reply, I thought I subscribed. *subscribes* A radiohead battle would be very interesting. I'd love to see a medley of interpretations of their music. If so, would we stick to one album or any of their songs? Are the song predetermined?
By the way, I haven't commented on your serve yet. The image has quite a mood to it. I like the sort of starry, intergalactic texture that the person seems to be looking out into. Lyrics seem to work well with their placement. I'd say it's a solid piece all around.
thanks for the crit, i wanted to do alot more but found that any element i was adding was taking away from the composition so it got left quite simple.
i didn't have any predetermined idea about the songs however that could add an interesting constraint. maybe 5 volleys each and do all of kid a? i was thinking i could even resubmit without the border and we could do a vertical mural battle in sequence of the track listings?
Yes.
This looks like it could end up a very interesting and entertaining battle!
Let me get my popcorn and jujyfruits!
:shhh: Down in front.
i'm not completely sold on the blend into the wood, it looks like you wanted to use the rule of thirds but i think cutting it off at the shadow would have solved the problem (of the shadow) and made a cleaner image overall.
i love the hand and the tree, composition is perfect imho. is that a shark in the tree?! haha.
only other thing i would have liked to have seen is maybe a bit more colour in the nebula... so it would match my next image! :)
just so everyone knows we are sharing stocks and some extra crop, not psd's.
ooh i really like this idea for a battle. and you've produced some pretty cool stuff. the end result should be impressive!
The color is fantastic. Great use of texture as well, a lot is going on but I feel like you've created a very cohesive image nonetheless. The burning tree is a nice touch. Give me a little time on this next one... I've got a toothache that is almost too distracting to sleep with, let alone photoshop.
great battle guys. i'm lovin the colors on all of these.
great theme as well. One of my favorite albums of all time.
squids #1 - great background. nice use of the sillouette. The text treatment is a bit to be desired. I wouldn't have put the ~ in and the all caps seems a bit loud.
zac #1 - nice colors man, really. love the tree at the bottom left. The balance seems off due to the boardwalk, i see what you're trying to do, but it seems like the perspective is off. I think it's the shadows more than anything.
squid #2 - now that's what i call a nice text treatment. this really pops out above the rest. The hairs on the left and right are done nicely with great colors. The color variation really adds a lot of depth which i think you guys have been lacking here in this battle (even though the rest of the image is slightly flat) .
those are my thoughts so far in short.
Please keep this going!
EDIT: and after all that, i just realized this is a vertical mural battle. Sweet idea and now the image transitions make sense.
aw hell yeah dude. totally not what i expected for in limbo and i'm glad. the typog treatment is perfect, colours really pop and the way you tied in the lyrics of the song is awsome. i really like this image. :cap:
Nice work guys! I especially like Zac's last volley. Very well done!:mrpimp:
I seriously can't wait to see the end result once all the songs are complete.
I personally thought I'd be told that the image was too dark after I posted it, but I'm glad to hear y'all like it. :yarr:
yeah zac, one of the best i've seen from you. very nice.
Awesome battle so far. I love the feel of the volleys. There should be more Radiohead-themed battles in the Arena. IMO it's just the right feel.

sorry for the larger than normal wait! after not saving zacaboo's image and then losing the net for a week it took me 2 days of spare time to find a single image that i wanted to work into this piece then another 2 to finish it. had alot of fun on this one, especially with the shading of the boy's body and the colour work. any crits would be much appreciated :)
(p.s the font used was 'bd plakatbau' also used on the kid a album cover. availible for free here.)
That's awesome buddy. I love how you kept the movement of the orange creature cohesively through the transition into your image with the splash of the kid. The visual quality of the image is very cool and quiet but contextually gives me a sensation of that heavy thickness you get when you jump into deep water, which speaks to me very loudly. It's not quite what I was expecting for Idioteque but I believe it works well. Very nice.
I'll try to have something up either tomorrow afternoon or the next day.
I'm getting this image of Dante traveling down into hell. I like where this is going. I think I may start a battle with an album theme, trick is finding a good one that isn't to obscure.
Very novel idea guys, fresh!
I hit a block with this one but I didn't want to drag it on any longer.

as usual with you images the colours are superb. could not fault you there. i also really like the text treatment, wouldn't move it a pixel. maybe a few bit of added detail in the dust to enhance the (possible) meaning of the song would have been cool but overall another kickass image from you. :)
I have to agree with squid, this is really a striking image. Beautiful color and yes, the text is just right. I think the block you hit was a parking block, cause you were finished. Looks great.
I feel I simply must post, I usually just lurk in these threads...
All of these images have been absolutely spectacular you two! I've been following along slowly stringing them together and I'm continually floored by how well you blend these images.
Wish I knew half as much about this as either one of you ;)
stock photos, gaussian blur and layer blending options baby. all you need to know :cap:
and if you want to feel fancy, masks.
Squid, that's a good idea with adding some detail in the dust. Thanks for the crits, both of you. I worry about how the color will come out on anyone else's monitor because I'm still using a dinosaur 19" CRT that I found on the side of the road four years ago. I just can't bring myself to replace it. ($$)
Can't wait to see Motion Picture Soundtrack from you, Squid.

not entirely sure about this one as an individual image, but i like how it works with zac's. only 3 more images left until the reveal! :)
love it, love it, love it. very simple but effective, much like the song. i like the plane in there, possibly referencing the extensive touring that led to thom writing this song. red and yellow (two colours in my head).. great, anger and fear, it all works. :) i normally hate both of those fonts, or ones that look very similar atleast but it's spot on.

my final image in this battle and i'm not really happy about that. had a blast doing this, would love to hear what you guys looking at it thought about the whole thing once it's done. favourite image, favourite section etc etc :cap:
you could always do Amnesiac next.
or a backwards canvas of OK Computer starting with 'the tourist'
Awesome work dude. Very clean, wonderful effect with the shadowy figure on the end of the bed, it looks like it's sewn into the sheet or something. I like the ventriloquist doll peeking out as well, very creepy! I'll try to have something up soon so we can wrap this up.
thanks for the kind words. :) no rush on the national anthem... i'd rather wait a few more days and have it finish on a strong note. funny you mentioned that lefteye.. i suggested a discography battle to zac via pm. lol
did anyone notice the rats?
would have liked the have seen the gradient maybe contained to just the yellow section and off the floor but the more i look at it the more i like it. especially in it's place. :) awsome work dude, definitely the most fun i've ever had in a battle.
did you wanna pm me the png and i'll post the full work? or you can do it, i reckon a 3 or 4px white border or something...
I must say that this has been a very fresh battle. I love the idea and you have both pulled no punches throughout. I think that one thing is what kept the battle going in the right direction.
Very good work to both of you. Cant wait to see the final canvas.
