I read a post on a different board from one of the macromedia guys that says "we've got millions of these players in distribution already", it's far from just a select few that have downloaded it.

Macromedia should've made and designed FlashMX on slower computers and limited bandwidth so as to understand the needs of the Internet users. This way, Macromedia would be able to predict how their program works across the spectrum of connection speeds.
yes, we did that. please remeber that there are tons of new features in Flash MX and the Flash player. At the same time the Flash player size remained relatively small.Quote:

we spent considerable resources on internal player testing, and then had a public beta testing. this issue jsut got through, and now we are working around the clock to fix it.
summary : we test more than most people realize. some issues get through. When they do, like in this case, we try to respond quickly to fix them.

It really has gotten big in a very short amount of time (the bug that is)
how obvious the bug may be(is it really that obvious?). Bugs still slip trough. I think i can say for every programmer in the world that debugging is a cumbersome job. however keep in mind that debugging someone elses code is even thougher.
however i don't think that you should judge the book by a hole made by a worm, rather judge it by the content. Flash mx (with or without bug) adds some elements that are really usefull and just missing in flash 5. The bug is just a minor setback but i don't think this bug will be rembered 2-3 weeks the fix has been released.
as for people having a hard time convincing corporates to use a single company platform.... just point your finger at microsoft.... windows is a great example and .net is a other great example...
to be honest if microsoft was even doing half the job as the people of macromedia i would be happy.
well anyway i'm going of to submit a new feature i want to see in flash 7 :) (midi support for those wanting to know :) perfect streaming media that still hasn't been used by flash mx)
as for Mike Chamber... I know the issues anyone has when a bug arrises and i must say you handled it pretty well.
However to make one suggestion. Instead of using a public beta woulnd't it be better to open a beta on developer-forums like these, with content you can test it with? This is only my opinion but, i don't think the average user would notice such a problem (they would probably just write it of as microsofts bugs :)) and even if they notice it, i hardly think they are going to write a email to report the bug.
However if you used a "semi"-closed beta for the users and developers on boards like these you would get alot more response. As these people have alot at stake and can find and will report bugs alot quicker then the average user.
I know you must be completely the wrong person to talk about beta testing regulations but maybe you could pass it on as suggestion...

maybe not the right place for this, but my wish for the wish@MM and bug@MM is:
it should both be a FORUM and NOT a MAIL account.
there where several MIDI wish mails i know, but nobody knows the answers (from MM).
so why send another wish mail?

I just watched the launch video for Flash MX. The Chairman and CEO of Macromedia says that an average of 2.3 million people download the Flash Player everyday. The video was done on March 4th, and he said they predicted that 100 million people would download the player within the next 30 days.
If his calculations are right, there are at least 100 million of these buggy Flash Players out there and the numbers are growing.

the one from mm.com is a newer version (.23 vs .21).

Would it be worth making it available to us, however not officially release it to the public yet. That way you'll get a lot of people testing the issues that concern them and if there are any bugs, we'll probably find them.
