i'd like to see an option in where you can define 2 or more objects, and a type of tween.. so lets say, a circle, a square, and a triangle..
then, through actionscript you can shape tween between them..
know what i mean? not through frames, but through actionscript.. so it won't be blocky by the frames and you have much more control.
don't feel like reading through everyone else's suggestions.
when a new layer is created, the name should be highlighted in preparation for the user typing a name better than "Layer n" Currently you have to create a new layer, then select it for a name change.
simple but useful change.
All of these are good suggestions. I was gonna post my thoughts but I believe they are all covered here!? Anyway, one thing that I don't think anybody mentioned: an easier way for Flash to shoot flames out of my monitor halfway across the room - help me with that and your a true FLASH MASTER!

Once again I've few ideas that i would glad to see in the next flash...
excuse me if some of these options already exists and i haven't figured it out !!!
- an history palet
- a connection simulator (to see how react my movie when loaded a 3 or 5 or 20 Kb/sec)
- sub-layers
- possibility to move, animate or add shades to mask
- easy-scripting (drag and drop) as director 8.5
- better integration with illustrator, or better drawing possibilties in flash
- drawing thing: the possibilty to convert a stroke into a plain form

I was wondering if you could possibly add the feature to create Flash movies in other languages like Arabic and Urdu.
I was having a lot of prolem creating any sort of joined writing in Arabic with the several Arabic fonts that I have and I was wondering wouldn't it be nice if Flash also supported the Ligature Joining that has been introduced by Miscrosoft in their applications like MS Word.
What you prpobably need to do is to enable the text box to process the characters that have been typed in some particular font like Arabic Transparent or Traditional Arabic and create as many logical joinings as possible and create vector formats of all joined characters to be used in Flash.
That would be of great help and would certainly make Flash more acceptable world wide.
I just want the manual to actually say what's going on, rather than lying or ignoring stuff.
Go and get koolmoves if all you want to do is text effects, and stick your photoshop up your backside.
I want greater knowledge of the limitations of flash, whatever they are, so i can find ways to be CREATIVE without spending 8 hours on an actionscript guessing game because the damn manual was written by a moron.
There is a lot of competition amongst the photoshop brigade to use the "kooooolest" new "effects" i.e. to get a big mess happening at the click of a mouse, and then impress your mates who think you must be clever to chose "Filter-Motion Blur" YET AGAIN!!!!!

Flash 6 (should be carbonized for OS X)
- should allow keyboard shortcut for dynamic input textfields.
- should contain a sound sequencer to play and interact few sound loops.
- should contain (if it's not yet done...) a "my common library"...with all the symbols we use more than one time.
- should have a snippets panel (like the snippets panel for DW4)...that contains all the action scripting we often use...to see an exemple for DW...go to http://www.projectseven.com/viewer/snippets.htm

They should bring back the ease and usability of Flash 4. Simple things like dragging a key frame and creating custom colours in flash 4 is much better.
Overall I think the Flash 5 interface is slow, fiddly and rubbish and it should go back to the way Flash 4 was.
How about support for multibyte characters?
or how about the ability to have onMouseOver actions that can be put on dynamic text that is brought in from outside?
and a better (proper) xml parser?
1-An option for customize the menu comands with my own keyboard shortcuts.
2- Free transform for the graphics symbols.
and
3- font preview.

In the debugger..when i have it open, and change something in the FLA ant test movie again, it is emty, so i have to restart.. fix that.
In Expert mode of AS, if u make something wrong u cant convert it to basic mode, fix that, but highlight the code thats not working with a special color,, RED! so we know

If you create a mask path, or any movement of an MC,
then i want some option so i can save the path,
and use it on the next MC aswell, so i dont need to make it all over,

the color table in Flash 5 is terrible...i cant pick out the colors i want from the little table, and i cant even select grayscale...so i have to go to the other table and blH BHLAH BLAH.. ITS JUST TERRIBLE.. in Flash 4 it was great..

First off, I can't wait for Flash 6! I think that instead of creating an easier way to create 3D effects in Flash, they should allow you to import files from programs like Bryce and 3D Studio Max! If they could do that than they would be introducing a whole new concept to Flash. But I think that they should have a small sound maker/modifier. I don't mean draw a few swiggly lines and see how it sounds, I mean like an editor for it! They could just call it Macromedia Blast and sell it as a seperate product. They could also make a better tweening toolbar, more hands on tweening. They could also use some better tutorials for new Flash users. There is one more thing that they could REALLY use: A special Actionscript for percent loading! I know it isn't that hard but they should have a little tag that does percentage loading! Well I have yacked enough.

I would like to see better vector tools and perhaps some video capabilities.. I think wav mapping and better overall control of sounds would be nice. Perhaps the ability to treat a mask layer as any other layer would be nice.. the ability to control a movie clip in a mask layer would be superb... In fact.. that's the main thing I'd like to see is better control of masks..

everything made up as good as possible would be great and a bit more control over framerates (an option to turn framedrop on or something) and a quicker renderer!
some 3d would be nice too - and a intelligent way to
resize the whole movie without big trouble in little china...

uuh yeah - and btw, a hittest method that checks for the
nontransparent outlines of a graphic/movieclip would be the ultimate thing for oldschoolshooter design - those square hittest things really suck if you get deeper.
1) First and foremost, now that they have brought FLASH 5 so close to web, why not add database integration features and also support for dynamic images (dont need generator!!!).
2) FLASH should be able to import video files like, avi, wmp, mpeg and other.
3) A facility to duplicate layers should be added.
4) Improved gradient fill features should be added.
5) Improved drawing tools like that in Illustrator or CorelDraw (its vector graphic designing tool after all).
6) Support for 3D graphics file format like .max!!!

Personally I would love to see a few things... one, which would be easy, the ability to save seperate keyframes for translation, rotation, and scaling! Many higher end animation packages have this, it would be easy to implement, and would offer animators alot more control.
Another thing I would like to see would be better vector drawing tools in Flash itself, tools similar to something Freehand or Illustrator have. I would love it if you apply effects on vector art, and then have the ability to animate each one of those effects.
Flash would be infintitely better for animators if these were included.
Would like to be able to directly print hi-res docs from JPG/PNG/PDF source. In other words, hit the print button and directly invoke the printer dialogue box and locally print a high quality brochure, datasheet, etc. Can be done today (outside Flash) using activeX/plugin (ala printQuick, pixami or pictureBUZZ. But would be so nice if it could be accomplished from Flash (no download, no browser crap to deal with).

I didn't read the entire thread, so I may be repeating some.
1. Ditch the "Security Feature" of only allowing loadVariables within the same domain.
2. Fix the XML support, ie. ignore white spaces and line returns. Maybe even include some built-in parser objects?
3. Fix the other XML bug(?), where when loading an xml doc, the rest of the movie freezes.
4. Dynamic images. Dump Generator (hehe), or at least add the ability to load an image via the images url. Again, this image doesn't have to reside on the same domain as the site hosting the swf.
5. Include an xml socket server. Like the multi-user server that comes with director.
6. Some sort of built in 3d support. simple primitive creations. I guess what I mean is to add a third dimension, ie. x, y, and the new and improved Z. I don't know much about 3d, but what I've seen done in flash so far is either importing renderings(not really 3d I guess) or creating custom actionScript. The AS is slow as all hell. maybe a way to import 3d data from 3ds max or whatever. Similar to the Director 3d stuff.
7. Better HTML support. Maybe an html parser(?) built into the player that ignores tags it doesn't recognize, but still displays what it can from the requested html doc.
8. Some cool HTML actionScript capabilities. IE. You could set some rules for your html, sorta like style sheets. Better yet, add support for style sheets? Or even some javascript type stuff for mouse0vers for links inside your html.
9. Video support. How come I can play a quicktime movie in the dev. environment, but not in the player?
An option to load an mpg or whatever via it's url on some other server would of course kick ass!
10. overall, Don't mess with the interface too much - Add more "real-language" features to ActionScript - integrate it with ColdFusion, and send me my evaluation copy!! ;)

I would like that boys and girls from Macromedia turn their heads toward Adobe (Photoshop and Image Ready) and break up Flash 6 into two applications. One part as authoring designing tool and second part as programming authoring tool! Why should I (designer) have to learn code??? I don't have the brain for that. Likewise, should a programmer learn to draw, sketch, paint, to design??? No brain for that! So, we should all stick to things we do best.
And both applications would be faster, easier to use...

for example A-Z or 1-9 or just some specific char.
it would make SWF smaller and more eficient
