well it's not practical to work with more than 72 dpi as web browsers can not show higher resolutions
but while making BG's for myself I usually use 200-300 dpi
for fonts, I use Google to search for free font sites ;)
as I'm a poor developer and I get thrilled by free stuff :D

you can create a 500 x 500 pixel image at 300dpi and a 500 x 500 pixel image using 72 dpi they are both the same size, DPI (dots per inch) is used mainly for printing 300 dpi being the standard for a tiff image (anything less will look poor/bitmapped)
most standard monitors will only display 72 - 100 dpi so its pointless making a 300 dpi image unless you want to print it.
If you want a big image, then start off big 1200 x 1000 pix or bigger and use 72dpi unless you want to send it to a printers, then use 300dpi

BP, I loved your Trojan Horse ! I decided to see if I could duplicate the drawing in SWiSH. I was amazed to see that the file size was only 9k when I finished. Though I enjoy drawing in PS the small file size of vectors and the challenge of drawing in Swish is really wonderful.
Sorry, for jumping in here but thought some of you might enjoy trying a different program for drawing. :-)

Why not saving that as a JPG though?

When you save it as a JPG it becames a raster graphic and then the file size jumps up! as well as you loose the crispness of a vector. No matter how much you zoom in on the swf file it will never distort, a jpg, which is a raster will distort when you zoom. :-)

really, I thought that it became straight lines if you were able to zoom in that close, which I dont think you can in those programs. I'm probably wrong, I've never tested it out hah.
It's rather doubtful that people will zoom into a JPG when simply viewing it online though.Quote:

It's true... vectors are lossless due to their nature - algorithmic - versus the fixed pixels used in raster images. But that's common knowledge; however, I won't reiterate the previously known.
