I've already seen it before, when it was called The Day After Tomorrow.

I guess the same could be said for any post-apocalypse genre movie, then. This one I didn't feel robbed afterwards. I usually do after anything with Jake Gyllenhaal in it, with the possible exception of Brokeback Mountain, where his abominable acting 'skills' were shadowed by a good script, good direction, and 3 other actors worth a damn. He's the Ralph Macchio of today.
2012 was just awful. It was in a weird middle ground where it was trying to be sort of realistic but the cg mixed with the situations made it not even close but it wasn't SO over the top that it was laughable. I wouldn't watch it again.
I'm confused. What exactly did either one of you expect walking into that movie? I expected over the top disaster effects with earthquakes, floods, explosions and the like, and felt just fine about what I got. I guess our expectations were just...different.
i can already tell they are both going to hate avatar
I expected nothing. It wasn't bad, just not worth the price of admission. What's so hard to swallow about that?
You enjoyed it, I enjoyed the majority of it. But will not call it a must-see movie by no stretch of the imagination. We differ, leave it right there.
Not a must-see. Just not a must-not-see.
I didn't expect for it to take 45 minutes for the first special effect. I counted.

Just saw that little sneak preview thing fox did a while back about Avatar. The technology behind it is VERY impressive. I knew about some of how it worked but this little sneak peak really showed a lot. Crazy stuff going on behind the scenes.
the more i see about Kick-Ass, the more i need to see this movie.
the trailer for "the karate kid" isn't as horrible as i expected
2010 is going to be one of the better movie years in recent memory.
FINALLY saw Up last night.
So hilarious and very well done. If i could hug Pixar i would. Consistently the best movies i've ever seen.
personally I think Up is overrated. "The journey" becomes chase scenes after chase scenes and in the end I don't even know if it's a story of the old man or the other old man or the kid, it's kind of mashed up together.
also, people said it has the saddest 10 mins movie opening but I thought it was the happiest (they lived happily together until the end, not like she suddenly died).
It could have been a lot better, story-wise :\
^ and i'm sorry to share it here :(
never mind...
I sort of agree. Story wise I think it was one of their weaker films.
LOL. I loved Up... Pixar has gotten damn good at the art of story-telling without words. I won't call it the best movie by no means, but I liked it enough to go back and own it.
Just finally saw The Tournament. Gory as hell, worse plot ever, Kelly Hu lust settled... the doctor dude from Stargate Universe as a drunken priest and Ving Rhames delivering his typical staccato Marcellus Wallace delivery sans anal entry from Zed... and still enjoyed it. Not as low-brow as Shoot 'Em Up but damn close.
I thought UP was absolutely timeless. Great story that evoked emotions, was sweet and appropriate for the whole family. Pixar is doing for animated story telling what Spielberg did for Motion pictures.
and big thanks for hanratty and gerbick from me too, for the appropriate and mature response.
I saw it a while ago, so I might be wrong. As I see it, the goal of the man was to take the house to the other side and leave it there and then who cares. He only cared about fulfilling his dead wife's dream (to leave on top of that big waterfall, where she'd have all kinds of adventures). Then, all these things happen that didn't let him complete his task...etc, etc.
In the end, I saw two big clear messages in the movie:
1. The destination is not important, getting there is the fun part of life. The old man was living all kinds of adventures (which is what he always dreamed of), but he didn't realized it earlier because he was trying to fulfill a dumb goal. Once he got where he wanted, he realized that there were more important things: life itself and his friends, so he went to save them.
2. I think the house was a big metaphor to the way we live our lifes. We all drag our stuff around, and it doesn't let us live happily (you care about your phone, your ipod, your car, your house payments, the big tv that you bought last xmas, etc....and all those things make your life heavier...if you wanted to go travel to South-america tomorrow, have an adventure, you just can't). I think most people live life thinking that they have to have all those responsibilities and things, but once you realize they don't matter, you are free to go wherever you want.
At least that's how I saw it. It was a movie that made me laugh, cry, and think.
Maybe the story could have been better, everything can always be better, but the one I saw was satisfying, it had its purposed, and it worked for me.
That's a lot deeper than I saw.
I saw keeping his word was paramount and remembering one's youth is important.
Daybreakers looks so good.
Just got back from seeing Up In The Air. It was surprisingly really good. It's definitely worth seeing.
The preview for Shutter Island looks really good too. Will have to check that out in theater.
oh and obviously everyone should listen to this kid about going and seeing avatar.

For a while I thought you mentioned 'everyone should go and see Avatar'.
Anyway, I wanna live on Pandora and get myself a Toruk.
</sarcasm>
I didn't really follow the news around it and didn't know too much about it going in. So it was surprising for me.
Sooooooooo... there are people whose jobs are to end others' jobs...
Yeah but that is just the fuel for the story...
just got a shipment of used dvds from hollywoodvideo(previewed movies 8 for $20 including shipping)
the spirit, captivity, doomsday, quarantine, son of rambow(possibly the only "good" movie in the group), max payne Resident evil extintion, city of ember.
so i know the spirit is going to be a train wreck, and son of rambow had a lot of indy hype. captivity should be good as a torture porn type movie, anyone seen any of the others?
Quarantine has the sister from Dexter in it. That's about all it had going for it. It wasn't AS bad as I thought it was going to end up being but the previews definitely made it seem way scarier.
As I don't watch Dexter, I wanted to see what she looked like, thus the quick google images search...all I have to say is what is up with the pit stains on this broad???
